2012-13 Hyundai Lease Rates – May 2012

Most numbers have remained the same. Lease rates for the Azera are now available. They look average in my opinion, but a good deal will have to come down to how much off MSRP you are able to knock off. Since the car has just been introduced to the public, I suspect deep discounts will be tough. On another note, the 2013 Elantra has been released and the residual is fantastic. The MF, not so much. Deep discounts have always been tough to get on this popular car so I would recommend buying it in cash or at a lower than 4.9% loan.

Below, you will see the Sonata SE Turbo (which I am currently leasing) calculations. They are definitely improved compared to last month, but could use a little more work.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T
MSRP – $25,520
Sale Price – $23,278 ($500 loyalty cash applied)

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – April 2012

Strangely enough, HMF re-adjusted the residual values for almost all of their cars. They also adjusted the money factor too. Some when up, while others came down. It’s a mixed bag if you ask me. The downside is that some cash incentives are no longer available, so I’m not sure I like the “improved” residuals and money factors on some models.

If you are leasing a Sonata, please note the $1500 cash is no longer available. Only the $500 loyalty cash is there now. That’s actually not that great because the $1500 that was originally there was fantastic. Now, please take my sample calculations below with a grain of salt. The sale price is based on March sale prices, so I would definitely try to knock off another grand or so to bring the payments closer to last month’s level.

I am being old that the $1500 lease cash is still around. I don’t see it on Edmunds.com, but it may very well be there. I recommend asking for it and see if you can get it. For all intents and purposes, I won’t be adjusting my calculation below. However, I do recommend taking that extra cash into consideration when crunching your own numbers. Specially if the dealer is willing to honor it.

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – March 2012

Hyundai residuals have dropped about 1% for most models (the Santa Fe drops by 3%, probably because a newly redesign model is just around the corner) but the MF carries over from last month unchanged. A reduction in residual without MF adjustment usually means your payments will jump compared to last month. Expect about $6-$7 change per month. Nothing outrageous, but worth noting.

Looking at the Sonata 2.0T SE calculation below, you will see how the lease payments are up slightly compared to last month. That’s not to say that you should expect that payment. On the contrary, these calculations are based on last month’s sales data, so I would encourage your to push for a bigger discount (before the rebates). Overall, I think Hyundai has entrenched themselves in the leasing world and not only do they have attractive lease programs, but they also have a good crop of highly sought-after cars too.

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – February 2012

The only car qualifying as a “deal” right now is the Sonata 2.0T SE. There is a lot of cash available right now, but not a lot of discounts off MSRP w/o using manufacturer incentives. The one thing I recommend is that you be careful when you lease a Hyundai. The payments are VERY attractive since they are generally $200-$300 per month for most cars, but they are also fairly inexpensive cars, so you don’t want to end up overpaying.

For example, leasing a Genesis Coupe for $300 a month +tax and inceptions isn’t all that bad, but the car’s MSRP is only $24k. So keep that in mind. Same goes for the other low priced models such as the Elantra, Accent and Veloster.

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – January 2012

If you are scared of the money factors, don’t. Hyundai is throwing money at leases in order to make things look more reasonable. Take the Sonata for example, you have $1500 lease cash AND $500 loyalty. Edmunds doesn’t state whether they can be combined or not, but I really don’t see why you couldn’t.

As you can see in my calculation below, the lease payments look decent. If you aren’t a current Hyundai customer, expect payments to be around $310 range since you will not be qualified for the extra $500 in cash. Even then, I think the lease is still a strong one.

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – December 2011

Unfortunately, I didn’t find a lot of Hyundai lease rates this month. I really need to get a more reliable source for this because scouring through online forums of this stuff just isn’t cutting it. R-Spec Genesis rates suck, but I’m not surprised since it’s a limited production vehicle. The Veloster looks decent but discount are a measly 2% off MSRP in my area. Not good enough in my opinion. The Sonata numbers look about the same as last month, slight drop in residual, but other than that, MF remains the same. Overall, if you are looking to get a Sonata, look to lease because long-term financing a purchase isn’t all that great (3.9% for 60 months & 4.9% for 72 months).

Bright Spots

VW. The only model to make it into the lease was the CC Sport, thanks in part to the generous $1250 lease cash that’s available. The rest of the models make better purchases than leases due to special financing. Eos also gets the $1000 lease cash, but the lease is only so-so, rated at 85.5 on my calculator.

Mercedes-Benz. Being an existing MB customer is really paying off this Holiday season. The $2000 loyalty cash is huge! Another model to keep your eyes on is the GLK350 4matic. The RWG is not high (87.5), but this SUV has never leased in with a RWG higher than 90 to begin with, so 87.5 is not too shabby. Remember that MBs payments are usually a bit more budget friendly on the 48-month terms. However, wear-n-tear issues should be considering before going that route.

Volvo. The C30 and C70 cut it pretty darn close (both hitting a RWG of 89). This is made possible by a generous $1000 loyalty cash that’s available to existing Volvo customers. Overall, I’m very satisfied with Volvo’s leases on their cars. Their SUVs, on the other hand, need a little work.

BMW. BMWFS seems to be throwing a lot of loyalty cash at their customers. On select 1-series models for example, they also have this $500 lease/apr bonus cash which I think could be applied to lower the MF plus $1000 in loyalty cash.

Weak Spots

Audi. They have not offer any worthwhile leases lately. No shock there, it’s been a while since Audi made it into the Round-Up.

In Summary

It’s Loyalty month here in the auto leasing world. Many manufacturers are rewarding loyal customers with loads of cash. Folks looking to get into something under $400 should consider the Sonata, Optima, Maxima or any non-luxury car. Honda almost seems to be giving away their cars right now so it isn’t hard to find a good deal there.

The Leaf is also great if you don’t ever want to visit a gas station again.

In the end, if I had to put my money where my mouth is, I would be rolling in a loaded 2012 Infiniti G37 sedan. Hands down, the best lease I’ve seen all month long.

2011-12 Hyundai Lease Rates – November 2011

From what I understand, sales of the Sonata have somewhat tapered off a little bit. As a response, Hyundai has made things quite attractive for those of you looking for a family-sized sedan with zip. As you know, I am a Sonata Turbo SE lessee and I’ve been reasonably happy with the car thus far. Sure, it has it’s faults and some quality issues still persist, but overall, I’ve had a reasonable leasing experience thus far. The current deal, if you are an existing Hyundai customer, is much better than what I had back in April. I believe my RwG rating was only in the low 90s back then. This current lease is pretty killer if you ask me.
