logo_benz My Take: I’ve picked out some of the following models as “decent” leases for the month. As usual, the leases with high residual values (.00200+) should be avoided. Those above .00100 may need some MSDs to make them a bit more affordable. Residual values for all Mercedes Benz are typically fairly low, so don’t expect any crazy-cheap leases. Don’t forget to do a little shopping for comparable models from other brands to see if its worth the extra cash to be seen in a Benz.

Here are some of the notable models you should probably look into:

ML350, ML350 4matic, R350, CLK Convertibles, SL550 and non-AMG SLKs.

I might consider doing away with “THE LIST” since there haven’t been CAN’T-MISS deals lately. The 2009 E-Class, 2009 3-series, 2009 Acura TL and 2009 C350 were probably the best all-around deals this year. Other honorable mentions are the G37, Accord and Camry. As you can see, most of the better deals occured in the 1st half of the year (which I consider the best time to lease), so you probably won’t be seeing great deals on the 2010 until sometime next year.

logo_benz UPDATE: I have just been informed by Aaron McCroskey that there is $5000 cash on the SLK toward a PURCHASE for those who are interested.

My Take: SLK300 has such a low money factor, they might as well lend you the money interest free. This is an excellent “lease-to-buy” candidate since the APR is a measly 0.144%. The lowest APR you can get on a purchase is 1.9%, so a good idea would be to lease the car for 48 months, then purchase the car in full at lease end or refinance the remainder. This method isn’t for everyone obviously because you could get stuck paying a high interest rate on the remainder of your payoff, so plan accordingly. The SLK350 is not a bad option either, but not as good as the SLK300.

logo_benz My Take: Low money factor alert! SLK300 MF is so cheap, they are practically giving it away. Seriously! You can do a 10k mile lease and boost your residual for 36 month to about 49%, and you are basically paying a few bucks every month on interest charges. This is also a pretty good Lease-to-Buy car too. Just go for the 10k lease over 48 months and pay off the car at lease end. Oh did I mention the $5,000 lease cash? Ahh yes! This beats out the Z4 AND the TT easily. So Cal residents can contact Aaron, all other can use Yahoo Autos to get quotes from your local dealers.

logo_benz My Take: I’m not going to bother too much with the S and SLK class estimates since they aren’t really high demand vehicles. Instead, I’ll focus on a very good “Lease-to-Buy” deal right now, the SLK300. The money factor is a measly 0.0007 for up to 48 months, making it a pretty good deal if you plan to buy the car at least end. Not even the 1.9% APR for 36 months can touch that. Definitely consider leasing the SLK300 for 4 years first then buy it out.

logo_benz My Take: Check out the 0.00007 money factor on the SLK300. Not bad huh? Residual is kinda low, but the money factor more than makes up for it at 0.168% APR. How crazy is THAT, its practically free to borrow the money to lease this car! MB has been seriously aggressive at trying to move units recently, from the CLK, ML to the C, they all seem to be going below invoice in most metro areas with decent competition. Be sure to check out your local MB dealerships to see what they can do for you. For all you Southern California people, I am working on getting a Mercedes Benz dealer into the Dealerplace this weekend. I will more than likely pay him a visit this weekend (if he’s around) and talk cars with him. Stay tuned…

logo_benz My Take: Wow, look at the money factor on the SLK300. They might as well make it .00001 or something because that’s 0.16% APR right there. I think that’s a great candidate for “leasing to buy” right now since there is very little interest. Most of your payment will be going towards depreciation and tax, that’s about it. There is also the current 0.9% for 66 months promo going on with most Mercs this month so you can always take advantage of that if you are looking to buy the car. If you are able to make a large payment at the end of a lease to buy out the car, you may want to just lease it for 4 years, save up and do a massive payoff at lease end. That’s also another alternative to save some cash in these uncertain times. Remember to read all the articles in the “Leasing 101” section if you are new to leasing. A wealth of info at your finger tips!

09 Mercedes Benz Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: I thought I’d share a funny little thing I noticed while looking over the prices of the C300 Sport sedan. The 2008 C300 Sport’s base price starts at $31,600 while the 2009 C300 Sport’s base price starts at $32,900. From what I understand, nothing’s changed between the two model years, at least, nothing immediately noticeable. It just fascinates me how manufacturers keep bumping up the price tag every year (and I’m not even counting destination fees here). At this rate, the C-Class will cost about $40k base price by 2015. So much for “entry-level” luxury sedan. LOL. Anyway, the rates look slightly better than December 2008 thanks to a lower money factor and only a small 2% drop on residual. As for the rest of the Mercs, I’m very surprised to see the GL, ML, R and SLKs showing decent lease rates in January. Heck, I’m surprised to see any lease support at all coming from these guys.

09 Mercedez-Benz Lease Rates for December 2008

My Take: You probably want to stick with the C, CLK, CLS, E (MAYBE), GL and ML classes this month. Everything else seems like it will cost you far more than you should be paying. The models previously mentioned enjoy a fairly low money factor and a decent residual value. You probably want to opt for the 12k mile leases and maybe extend the lease to 48 month. Unlike BMW, Mercedes Benz seem to lease better in the 36-month and 48-month terms. With Warranty covering up to 48 months, you should be taken cared of in case something happens to your Benzo. Now the question is, do you really want to drive the same car 4 straight years? Personally, I have leased both 36-month and 48-month leases and I find that 48 month leases just a tad “too long”. In 4 years, I tend to find way too many flaws in one car and I end up not enjoying the latter part of my lease. Of course, it if works out in the budget, 48 month isn’t too bad, just keep your miles low (lower than your contracted allowance) and you can probably end your lease in advance by trading it in, you might even get some money back.
