I know this is late, but I just got these numbers a couple days ago, plus I’ve been slammed with work at the office and at home. Better late than never I say. I think that these numbers should remain useful through the month of February anyway, so you technically have more than a month to use them. As always, any changes will be posted. Oh, before I forget, notice the 2013 lease rates for the XC90! Nice and early!

I honestly think that Volvo has done a good job crawling back into the leasing landscape. Their rates are very competitive and their discounts are decent. I’m seeing about 4% to 5% off MSRP in the SoCal region for S60s via TrueCar. Not a huge discount, but $1000 loyalty cash is available. Please note that the financing rates are quite competitive as well should you choose to buy instead. Last month’s RWG rating on the S60 T5 was about 93.0. This month, we’re looking at around 90.2. Yes, the deal isn’t as good as during the Holiday season, but January leases rarely are. However, this rating is still within the “GOOD LEASE” range.

2012 Volvo Lease Rates – December 2011

There has been a drop in residual values ranging from 1% to 2% for most models in the line up. Luckily, Volvo has adjusted the Money Factor to keep the lease from tanking. I actually prefer having a lower residual and lower money factor because it gives you the option of buying-out your lease at a more reasonable price should you love your car. If you are curious about the Lease-To-Buy scenario I just described, check out this LINK.

Moving onto a sample Volvo lease, the S60 is still an attractive lease, specially for returning customers. Below you will see a more “REAL WORLD” estimate based on a well-equipped S60 T5 with Sunroof. The lease is still good, but not as enticing as last month. TrueCar indicates about 8% off MSRP in the SoCal region excluding the $1000 loyalty cash is still available, which bumps the discount to about 10%. Without the loyalty cash, the lease drops to a 88.8 RWG rating which is still within an acceptable range, but not as ideal. Given a choice, I would recommend BUYING the car because you can get a lower interest rate of 0.9% for 48 months OR 1.9% for 72 months, both which are much lower than the 2.38% the MF converts to.

Bright Spots

VW. The only model to make it into the lease was the CC Sport, thanks in part to the generous $1250 lease cash that’s available. The rest of the models make better purchases than leases due to special financing. Eos also gets the $1000 lease cash, but the lease is only so-so, rated at 85.5 on my calculator.

Mercedes-Benz. Being an existing MB customer is really paying off this Holiday season. The $2000 loyalty cash is huge! Another model to keep your eyes on is the GLK350 4matic. The RWG is not high (87.5), but this SUV has never leased in with a RWG higher than 90 to begin with, so 87.5 is not too shabby. Remember that MBs payments are usually a bit more budget friendly on the 48-month terms. However, wear-n-tear issues should be considering before going that route.

Volvo. The C30 and C70 cut it pretty darn close (both hitting a RWG of 89). This is made possible by a generous $1000 loyalty cash that’s available to existing Volvo customers. Overall, I’m very satisfied with Volvo’s leases on their cars. Their SUVs, on the other hand, need a little work.

BMW. BMWFS seems to be throwing a lot of loyalty cash at their customers. On select 1-series models for example, they also have this $500 lease/apr bonus cash which I think could be applied to lower the MF plus $1000 in loyalty cash.

Weak Spots

Audi. They have not offer any worthwhile leases lately. No shock there, it’s been a while since Audi made it into the Round-Up.

In Summary

It’s Loyalty month here in the auto leasing world. Many manufacturers are rewarding loyal customers with loads of cash. Folks looking to get into something under $400 should consider the Sonata, Optima, Maxima or any non-luxury car. Honda almost seems to be giving away their cars right now so it isn’t hard to find a good deal there.

The Leaf is also great if you don’t ever want to visit a gas station again.

In the end, if I had to put my money where my mouth is, I would be rolling in a loaded 2012 Infiniti G37 sedan. Hands down, the best lease I’ve seen all month long.

2012 Volvo Lease Rates – November 2011

No change this much. Numbers look slightly better because I noticed a $100 increase in the MSRP. Not sure if I overlooked that last month or if there was an actual price increase. Nevertheless, higher MSRP and same sale price as last month equals lower monthly payment. By now, I pretty much expect everyone to know why this happens. If you don’t know, you should refer to the lease formula for details. The S60 T5 is one wicked lease right now. I like it ALOT! Highly recommend if you want to stick with an European brand but are turned off by the high payments of the BMWs, Audis and MBs.

Financing rates aren’t half bad either 0.9% for 48 and 1.9% for 60. Not too shabby and actually lower than the MF.

Costco is not currently offering any cash cards like they usually do during the holidays (They are currently doing it for Chevy & GMC, see here). That doesn’t mean this won’t change down the road, so keep an eye out on their auto website.

Same thing. Different month. All good. Prices aren’t too bad either. TrueCar indicates about a 8% discount on the S60 T5 here in SoCal. Not bad, specially if you are an existing Volvo customer because there’s an additional $1000 in loyalty cash waiting for you. Check out the estimate below to get an idea of what to expect. I have estimated payments with and without loyalty. That extra $1000 really helps keep the deal attractive. I guess it does pay to be loyal to a particular brand.

There is loyalty cash to be had on all Volvos right now. Remaining 2011 S60 and S80s have some extra cash incentives as well. The 2012 C70 probably has the best lease rates of them all at the moment, but it is a more expensive lease than the 2011. I think Volvo leases have improved a lot over the past year. Definitely better than what I’ve seen coming out of Audi lately. I would love to see the day where I can debate whether a G37 or a S60 is the better deal.

Matt AKA Rman850R has come through again with this month’s Volvo numbers. Not only that, he even wrote me a great summary of this month’s Volvo lease rates. Here is what he said:

Unfortunately, residuals have gone down, and the money factor reduction has not fully compensated. Overall, leases have gone up except for the C70 and S80, which have improved slightly. S80 3.2s now have $2,000 dealer cash up from $1000. S80 T-6s have $1000 dealer cash and all C30s have $500 dealer cash.

I am really high on the Volvo C70 right now. Convertibles are generally not known to be great leases, but the Z4, G37 and the C70 have really been very good deals lately. Hopefully the trend continues so that we can easily predict when to lease convertibles.
