09 Mercedes Benz E-Class Lease Rates – April 2009

logo_benzMy Take: The E-Class Bluetec, Wagon and AMG models have a DO NOT LEASE recommendation this month due to low residual and high money factors. It doesn’t really come as a surprise since that’s been the case for months now. If you plan to lease, stick with the sedans. Remember, the majority of MBs have extremely low residual values compared to the competition, which is normally a bad thing in the leasing world. The good news is that MB Financial also has the tendency of offering exceptionally low money factors. These conditions make them great candidates for “lease-to-own” because most of your payments go towards the principal of the loan. When it comes time to end the lease, the residual value will be fairly low, making the decision to buy the car at lease-end (should you choose to) an easier one. I will spend some time this month explaining the whole “lease-to-own” concept once I am done posting most of April’s lease rates. Going back to the E-Class, there is $6000 dealer cash available for those who finance through MB Financial. There is also 0.9% financing for up to 66 months! This makes purchasing quite attractive if you think about it. You could pay 0.9% for 66 month and own the car at the end of your loan, OR you could pay 0.432% for 48 months, then make a balloon payment of the remaining 38% of your residual value in order to avoid paying interest. Tough call, I guess it all depends on whether you can afford to pony up that much cash at lease end. Of course, you can simple walk away and hop into another new Benz (ahh, the joys of leasing!). Lastly, the 2010 E-Class should be out soon (complete with brand new square headlights!) so I suspect some good discounts should be attainable on the 2009 model.

2010 Mercedes Benz GLK-Class Lease Rates – April 2009

logo_benzMy Take: I’m sure some of you have probably seen the GLK-Class TV commercials by now. I’m a bit torn on the looks…On TV, it looks great; roughed, sporty, with a little bit of the C-Class Sport flair. In pictures, it looks a bit odd, like the nose doesn’t fit the rest of the package. The cabin seems to look a bit too tall for it’s own good, making the exterior design look somewhat top-heavy. In person, well, I haven’t seen it in person so I will probably have to reserve my comments until I get around to see it. In any case, the lease rates are hideous, so I would recommend stay far far away from this ride until the money factors cool off a bit.

09 Mercedes Benz C-Class Lease Rates – April 2009

logo_benzMy Take: Bummer! the C-Class money factors went up this month for almost every car except the C350. This means that if you missed out on the C350 the past couple of months, you get another month to renegotiate a better deal. (Last month’s lease rates) Like last month, assuming you are trying to keep your lease payments below $500 a month, the sweet spot on the C350 would be the 48-month lease. Lets have a quick little recap here…

C350 – Black – Premium 2 Package – Panorama Sunroof – AMG 18″ 5-Twin-Spoke Wheels – 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer – iPod Integration Kit – 48 months/12k miles.

MSRP $44,120
Invoice $41,093
Sale Price $39,120
Residual 47%
Money Factor .00084
Tax Rate 9.25% So Cal Tax (went up 1% for us, lame!)

Monthly $433 (base payment) + $40 (tax) = $473 per month (with inception fees due at signing)

Now, lets say you can’t get the dealer to drop it down to $2k under invoice and only manage about $1k instead (keep in mind that all markets are different). No biggie, your monthly payments would be $454+tax. In my case, it would be around $497, which puts me just shy of $500. Still a solid deal if you ask me. If you choose not to roll in your inception fees, expect to pay around $2000 to cover all the bank/dealer/gov’t/dmv fees + 1st month payment.

The Wall : Getpaid’s 2009 Mercedes CLK350

Name: Getpaid
Location: California
What He’s Got: Everything but wood grain and Navi.
What It Cost: 2 payments left on my old lease and about 5,000 miles over my allotted 10,000 per year ($1250). Paid $3000 after everything at drive off (that includes my first month’s payment) and am paying $455 a month for 39 months at 10,000 miles a year. I believe sticker was $52950 but i’m not positive as to what it came out to when all was said and done.

My Take:PHAT RIDE! Love it! Mercs do look best in black so you definitely didn’t go wrong there. The deal in my opinion was very good considering the following… 1) You were over your miles and had a couple payments left. 2) Of the $3000 up front that you paid, more than HALF was going towards inception, meaning your cap reduction was probably no more than $1k. At $455, that’s about the same as what some folks are paying for 2.0T A4s and 328i…but you got a CLK350 at a MSRP of $52k. Congrats! Great ride, great deal. Thank you VERY MUCH for sharing. Wow, the first Merc on the Wall!

09 Mercedes Benz SLK Lease Rates – March 2009

logo_benzMy Take: Wow, look at the money factor on the SLK300. They might as well make it .00001 or something because that’s 0.16% APR right there. I think that’s a great candidate for “leasing to buy” right now since there is very little interest. Most of your payment will be going towards depreciation and tax, that’s about it. There is also the current 0.9% for 66 months promo going on with most Mercs this month so you can always take advantage of that if you are looking to buy the car. If you are able to make a large payment at the end of a lease to buy out the car, you may want to just lease it for 4 years, save up and do a massive payoff at lease end. That’s also another alternative to save some cash in these uncertain times. Remember to read all the articles in the “Leasing 101” section if you are new to leasing. A wealth of info at your finger tips!

09 Mercedes G, GL, ML, R Lease Rates – March 2009

logo_benzMy Take: Of the whole lot, I just like the ML320s rates. As I mentioned last month, the ML320 is not exactly available in large volume because it is a diesel. However, I think this car’s lease rates look best compared to the other SUVs and Wagons in Merc’s lineup. This is definitely a “lease to buy” candidate (like most Mercs) and it also cheapest when you lease it at 48 months inteast of 36. There are no cash/rebate incentives on the ML, but there is special 0.9% financing for up to 66 months if you intend to buy the car. Not too bad if you ask me. I think Merc is really willing to drop prices to move cars right now. If you thumb through the forums, you’ll notice JoeBean getting about 3k under invoice on his C350, so keep that in mind when you visit your Merc dealer.

09 Mercedez Benz E-Class Lease Rates – March 2009

logo_benzMy Take: The E-Class Mercs are excellent candidates for “Lease To Buy”. They feature a low residual value and a low money factor, meaning most of your payments will be going towards the car, not the interest rate. If you want low upfront payments, reasonable monthly payments and an option to not buy the car at lease end, this car just might be for you. There is a whopping $6000 in dealer cash available and 0.9% financing for up to 66 months for the E350. What’s even cooler is that you can combine both of them. For leasing, there’s $4000 lease cash available from MBF (Remember that for Mercs, you want to go with the 48-month leases for the lowest possible payments) Personally, I really like the E-Class since it’s luxurious, spacious and one of the better luxury family sedans out there.

09 Mercedes Benz C-Class Lease Rates for March 2009

logo_benzMy Take: ALRIGHT! THIS IS THE MONTH FOR ALL YOU MERCEDEZ BENZ FANS!! Dang it!! I wanna trade in my G37 now!!! Anyway, here’s the deal! You want to stick with the 48-month because the 24 and 36 month leases have major residual drops. However, the 48-month lease’s residual stays intact! To make things better, the money factor drops, so that means that the payments will drop as well. Ain’t that sweet? Hahaha. I think so.

As a special treat, I will deck out a nicely loaded C350 (in black, cuz they look best in that color) and estimate those payments for ya. Here it is!

C350 – Black – Premium 2 Package – Panorama Sunroof – AMG 18″ 5-Twin-Spoke Wheels – 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer – iPod Integration Kit – 48 months/12k miles.

MSRP $44,120
Invoice $41,093
Sale Price $39,120
Residual 47%
Money Factor .00084
Tax Rate 8.25% So Cal Tax

Monthly $433 (base payment) + $36 (tax) = $469 per month (with inception fees due at signing).

So there you have it, a $44k car for under $500 a month after taxes. Not bad huh? Just remember, you are going to have to work at it. Even if you end up at invoice or just $1000 under invoice, you are still looking at a low-$500 per month payment. To put things in perspective for ya, I leased a 325i back in 2001 for $553 per month…MSRP $32k. Yeah. Silly me, I know.
