logo_infiniti My Take: Sorry G37 fans, this month’s lease looks so-so. On a positive note, the G37 sedan looks like an OKAY lease right now due to a slightly lower money factor (but the residual did drop a little). Certainly not at the level it was last year though. Also, remember the sweet-spot is the 36-month lease. Infiniti is going to great lengths to make 24-month leases unattractive right now. The coupe is getting no love from leasing gods right now, as matter of fact, I think the money factor went up. Word is that there are still some 08 models to be had right now, so until that inventory dwindles, the coupe will still lease horribly. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get this car. On the contrary, there is $500 customer cash ($2000 dealer cash), plus 1.9%, 2.9%, 3.9% financing for 36-months, 48-months and 60-months, respectively. I see no reason why you shouldn’t go in for a test drive.

MY TAKE: I started to find too many leases that got significantly worse so I felt that I probably needed to feature them individually since the “DO NOT LEASE” lease is getting WAY TOO LONG. As a result, I decided to start things off with the 09 Infiniti G37s. As much as I love these cars, I can’t find myself recommending them this month. The residual values are significantly lower than the 08 models, factor in the high money factors and you have a bad combination for a lease.

Quite hideous aren’t they? It is obvious that IFS is trying to steer us clear from the 24 month leases, but the 36 month leses aren’t look all that great either. I’m just glad I pulled the trigger when I did because last May/June’s rates were probably the lowest rates you will ever see for the G37s.

08/09 Infiniti G37 Lease Rates for December 2008

My Take: The 09 G37 is still leasing for a good chunk of change, so you are actually better off leasing the 08 model instead. As for the sedan, I still think that waiting until January/February might be a good idea because their rates are still a bit on the high end. Infiniti is trying to discourage lesses from going with the 24-month lease on the sedan (there’s only a 1% drop from 24 to 36 monoth leases and a significant bump in money factor) so stay away from those. I always felt the 36-month leases were ideal anyway so you really shouldn’t consider 24-month unless they are cheaper or just as much as the 36-month leases.

UPDATE: Word is that the $395 disposition fee will return January 6th, 2009 on all Infiniti Leases. It is a somewhat of a big deal if you intend to keep the car for the entire length of your lease.

My Take: Wow, 09 G37s (sedan and coupe) rates really suck this month. My advice is to hold out til next year and see how the numbers look. The residual value is higher than most cars on the road, but not as high as the 08s used to be so it won’t be cheap.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Infiniti G35/G37

My Take: Congrats to those who were able to get super cheap 24mo leases on the Gs. Why? because you can’t now! In response to the horrendous financial meltdown we are having here country-wide, it seems that captive banks are shying away from those short-term leasing and sticking with the 36mo and 48mo terms. I’ve picked out the G35 Journey, G35x and the G37 Journey for payment calculations. This doesn’t mean that they lease best, on the contrary, they have the worst residual/mf combo (with the G35x being the exception). The reason I’ve selected them is because they are the more “popular” models. Most people don’t opt for the base model, so no point calculating those. Besides, base models are harder to come by. You may also want to consider the 48 month lease because the residual doesn’t drop too much. The money factor does drop further and your payments are spread out by another 12 months, making your payments cheaper.

I get good number of emails every week and I sometimes I find that some of the questions need to be shared with the community because they are just very good questions. I want to thank James for his question today because his question has inspired me to create a new segment of “featured questions” for the site. Many Thanks!

James: How is leasing a G37 sport bad right now?

G: The G37 is a worse lease than last month, but it isn’t a horrible lease overall. I will looking into the numbers in a bit.

James: It’s the SAME price as the IS 350 and the 135 and it’s $100 less a month.

G: I wouldn’t consider it fair to compare the IS350 with the G37 since we are talking about a coupe and a sedan. Those shopping for a coupe certainly should pick the G37 over the 135i, while those shopping for a sedan should consider the G35 if the IS350 is not to their liking.

James: 71% for 10k miles, .00179 M, 2300 down with your Excel lease sheet it comes to $400.83 a month with 6.5% taxes.

G: I’m not sure how you came out with those numbers since a MSRP and Cap Cost was not define. But lets take my August numbers and use them as an example.

Something to note, when you lease for 24 months, the residual is the same on the 10k and the 12k lease. Tarry apparently keeps getting that wrong on Infiniti leases, so make sure to note that. Regardless, let us assume the lease is for 15k miles.

August Monthly Payment is: $470 (plus inception and taxes)
September Monthly Payment is: $511 (plus inception and taxes)

Essentially, you are paying about $41 more from August to September. Now those who leased in July/August were paying about $30 more than the ones who leased in May/June. Essentially, the price went up $70+ per month since June. And I suspect it’s only going to go up until the 09 model is released.

James: That’s a great deal compared to the others above. Can you tell me why you didn’t suggest it?

G: I apologize if I gave the impression that the G37 is a horrible deal compared to other cars of the same price range. My main reason for not suggesting it is because I felt the lease wasn’t as good as it has been in the past few months. Factor in the fact that most people lease the Journey over the Sport and the payments jump that much more due to the lower residual value. The G37 is still one of the best values when it comes to coupes, so if you don’t mind paying a bit more than those who leased a few months ago, then I would suggest doing so before the 09 model rolls into showrooms.

September 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Infiniti G37

My Take: Before we get into the numbers, I’d like to apologize for disappearing these past few days without notice. Had a family medical emergency late Monday, so I had to pack my things and skip town last minute. Things are okay now and I just got back tonight, so I should be able to resume with the site updates and email questions. Thanks for your patience.

Anyway, I did find some rates, so I will be posting them in the coming days, so please bare with me here. First of all, the numbers for G37 look BAD this month. I wouldn’t consider leasing the 08 models at all this year. Your better bet would be to wait for the 09s or just buy/finance an 08 model with their low 0.9% APR for up to 60 months. That results in a much better deal. If you are curious as to what APR a money factor of .00215 is, just multiply the MF by 2400 and that should tell you what kind of APR you are paying for. Not a good deal now, is it?

I’m not going to bother with the estimates since I’m recommending that you don’t lease this car. Buy or wait for the 09s instead, that’s money better spent. If you are still considering a lease of the 08 model, then leave a comment and I will crunch some numbers for you.
