My Take: Here’s a list of the “bad” 09 Mercedes Benz leases. If you are looking to lease any of the following cars, you may want to rethink that if you are shopping for a deal. Poor residual value and/or high money factors are never a good combination, even if you manage to get the dealer to lease the car at below invoice price. There’s just way too much interest and/or too much depreciation that even cash discounts can’t overcome, so try to avoid the following cars.

October 2008 Lease Rates for All 09 Mercedes Benz Models

My Take: Slim pickings here for Mercedes-Benz. Of the entire line up, the following four rides seem to have resonable money factors and residual values (actually, all C300s have the same rates, so you can go with either the sport, sport 4matic, lux or lux 4matic). You should be able to get a pretty nice discount on these rides though, so that should make up for it. Invoice or less is what I would personally shoot for. Keep in mind that a 48-month lease may yield lower monthly payments, so that is always an option. Remember, in our current economic environment, they need you more than you need them. My Take: I don’t really understand why Benzos always cost so much. Its not like they are the most reliable cars on the road. Luxurious? Maybe. Looks like those who want that shiny 3-pointed star on their hood will need to pay a premium for it. MB’s 4-year lease seems most attractive, but considering tire replacements and maintenance fees, I’m not so sure lower payments offset the operational costs.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08/09 Mercedes Benz E-Class

My Take: 2009 Models for the E-Class are out, with lease support too (on some models)! 2008 models do no have any lease support from MB, so stay away from those. Luxury, Sport and Luxury 4matic models seem to be getting the most love from MB this month. Residuals could be better, but I think MF’s are low enough to make things interesting here.

I opted to look at the 48mo lease because I suspected that the payments would be lower. The MF stayed the same while the residual dropped only 9%, same as from 24-36 months. Looks like I was right. It might be “okay” to do so since MB does provide you with a 4yrs / 50,000 mile warranty. You might have to replace some tires during the term, but that would be offset by the upfront costs you would had to pay if you chose a shorter term and had to into another lease. The only major thing I’d be worried about are those 36k mile maintenance checkups.

Even with the reduced MF, the lease is still expensive. You are better off with the 5-series or the M35, with the edge going to the 5-series. I’m only going to analyze one trim this time since most of the rates are pretty bad, with the ones that are good falling around the same range as the one I calculated. Keep in mind that there will probably be better “purchase” incentives available for the ’08 models, so be sure to inquire about those.

My Take: This probably my favorite MB sedan. This is also MBs bread and butter from what I understand. The MF is pretty low (by MB standards) on most of the E models, with residual values a bit higher than the CL, CLK, CLS models I posted earlier. As mentioned last month, expect a new E-Class roll in for the 2009 model year. It’s looking GOOOOOD! See below!

My Take: The E-class is getting a face-lift and new upgrades for the 2009 model year. As you can see, the money factors are very attractive for the 24-month leases, specially for the E350 Sport 4matic. The residuals are not too bad, although, it really sucks when you have to pay almost 40% of the car’s value within 2 years.
