logo_benz My Take: Well, don’t say I didn’t warn ya. Here’s the bad news, the $2000 is gone. The good news is that I think you can do no worse than invoice. The C350 still retains it’s good old money factor from June (which is the same as May, April, March and possibly February). Certainly more expensive, but definitely not horrible. I know the good old MB dealers are going to hate me for saying this, but I think you can do a little better than invoice in areas with solid competition due to the fact that MBs have holdbacks. Now lets get into the C300. The C300 got a major MF deduction in order to offset the 2% loss in residual value. How does that compare to last month you ask? You save almost $30 per month, which translates to about $1000 in your pocket. Cool huh? So this month, I’m going to pimp the C300 Sport instead. logo_benz My Take: Who wants a C350? You DO! Forget the C300s, there is $2000 marketing cash on the C350s until 6/30 and the money factor/residuals are STILL the same. I was hammering about in February, and like a broken record, I will tell you again…GET THE C350! To encourage you to get into the C350, I will refuse to answer any C300 questions for the remainder of the month! If you are in So Cal, hit up Aaron over at Dealerplace and tell him you want the car at $2000 under invoice. That’s it. Expect to pay around $2k at drive-off and your payments should be under $500 if stick to 36/48 months. Just read the comments in the forums or in last month’s C-Class post to get an idea as to what others have found. Now, if only they would drop the MF on the C63, that would make me REALLY happy.

logo_benz My Take: Ready for some good news? The C-Class lease rates stayed relatively the same as last month, with only one exception. The 24-month lease residuals dropped by 1% on the C300 trims and 2% on the C350 and C63. Since the 48-month lease is the sweet spot for the C-Class, it shouldn’t affect most people looking to lease the C-Class. I am still liking the C350 this month since it may still be possible to get it for under $500 per month after tax with just inceptions (or by dropping some MSDs to lower the money factor further). Click Here to read up on last month’s comments on the C-Class to see what I am talking about. Another thing to consider is to BUY the C350. Blasphemy, I know, but still! There is $2000 dealer cash available that CAN be combined with 0.90% APR that’s available for up to 66 months. I’ve been hammering about the C350 for about three months now, not sure how much longer these numbers are gonna stick around. Let this be a warning.

logo_benz My Take: Bummer! the C-Class money factors went up this month for almost every car except the C350. This means that if you missed out on the C350 the past couple of months, you get another month to renegotiate a better deal. (Last month’s lease rates) Like last month, assuming you are trying to keep your lease payments below $500 a month, the sweet spot on the C350 would be the 48-month lease. Lets have a quick little recap here…

C350 – Black – Premium 2 Package – Panorama Sunroof – AMG 18″ 5-Twin-Spoke Wheels – 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer – iPod Integration Kit – 48 months/12k miles.

Tax Rate 9.25% So Cal Tax (went up 1% for us, lame!)

Monthly $433 (base payment) + $40 (tax) = $473 per month (with inception fees due at signing)

Now, lets say you can’t get the dealer to drop it down to $2k under invoice and only manage about $1k instead (keep in mind that all markets are different). No biggie, your monthly payments would be $454+tax. In my case, it would be around $497, which puts me just shy of $500. Still a solid deal if you ask me. If you choose not to roll in your inception fees, expect to pay around $2000 to cover all the bank/dealer/gov’t/dmv fees + 1st month payment.

logo_benz My Take: ALRIGHT! THIS IS THE MONTH FOR ALL YOU MERCEDEZ BENZ FANS!! Dang it!! I wanna trade in my G37 now!!! Anyway, here’s the deal! You want to stick with the 48-month because the 24 and 36 month leases have major residual drops. However, the 48-month lease’s residual stays intact! To make things better, the money factor drops, so that means that the payments will drop as well. Ain’t that sweet? Hahaha. I think so.

As a special treat, I will deck out a nicely loaded C350 (in black, cuz they look best in that color) and estimate those payments for ya. Here it is!

C350 – Black – Premium 2 Package – Panorama Sunroof – AMG 18″ 5-Twin-Spoke Wheels – 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer – iPod Integration Kit – 48 months/12k miles.

So there you have it, a $44k car for under $500 a month after taxes. Not bad huh? Just remember, you are going to have to work at it. Even if you end up at invoice or just $1000 under invoice, you are still looking at a low-$500 per month payment. To put things in perspective for ya, I leased a 325i back in 2001 for $553 per month…MSRP $32k. Yeah. Silly me, I know.

09 Mercedes Benz C-Class Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: The C63 is not a vehicle you should be leasing, so remember to buy it if you are itching for that ride. As for the rest of the C-Class, I’m noticing that the C’s are leasing better at the 36 and 48 month terms than on the 24. MB is clearly pushing lessees towards the longer terms by bumping the money factor on up on the 24 month terms. Personally, I think the 24 month leases are a thing of the past. Residual values have taken a dive in the past year and it is clear to automakers that short term leases are money losers. Compared to January, the C-Class 4matic models’ lease rates have come down a bit, so that should save you some money every month. The C350 came down a bit too this month so that’s worth a look as well. Again, there are special financing programs available on the C-Class, however, I think the money factors are low enough to go with leasing instead.

As an added bonus, I spec’ed out a C350 with the Pano Moonroof, Premium 2 Package, 6-disc cd player, ipod connector and walnut trim for a MSRP of $43110. Assuming you can get $2000 under invoice ($38154) sale price, 48-month lease, 12k miles per year, 8.25% sales tax (So Cal), inception fees due at signing; you are looking at approximately $438 per month ($462 if you only get $1000 below invoice). I know the sale price may seem like a stretch, but if you think about it, it really isn’t. Back in Sept 2008, when the 09 C-Class was brand-spanking new, I’ve heard of dealers offering $1000 under invoice. Things were better then. We are now 5 months into the 09 model year, not to mention Audi is giving out $2000 under invoice on their A4s, so do I think $2000 under invoice on the more expensive C350 is possible? HELL YEAH! Getting into a C350 never looked so good.

09 Mercedes Benz Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: I thought I’d share a funny little thing I noticed while looking over the prices of the C300 Sport sedan. The 2008 C300 Sport’s base price starts at $31,600 while the 2009 C300 Sport’s base price starts at $32,900. From what I understand, nothing’s changed between the two model years, at least, nothing immediately noticeable. It just fascinates me how manufacturers keep bumping up the price tag every year (and I’m not even counting destination fees here). At this rate, the C-Class will cost about $40k base price by 2015. So much for “entry-level” luxury sedan. LOL. Anyway, the rates look slightly better than December 2008 thanks to a lower money factor and only a small 2% drop on residual. As for the rest of the Mercs, I’m very surprised to see the GL, ML, R and SLKs showing decent lease rates in January. Heck, I’m surprised to see any lease support at all coming from these guys.

09 Mercedez-Benz Lease Rates for December 2008

My Take: You probably want to stick with the C, CLK, CLS, E (MAYBE), GL and ML classes this month. Everything else seems like it will cost you far more than you should be paying. The models previously mentioned enjoy a fairly low money factor and a decent residual value. You probably want to opt for the 12k mile leases and maybe extend the lease to 48 month. Unlike BMW, Mercedes Benz seem to lease better in the 36-month and 48-month terms. With Warranty covering up to 48 months, you should be taken cared of in case something happens to your Benzo. Now the question is, do you really want to drive the same car 4 straight years? Personally, I have leased both 36-month and 48-month leases and I find that 48 month leases just a tad “too long”. In 4 years, I tend to find way too many flaws in one car and I end up not enjoying the latter part of my lease. Of course, it if works out in the budget, 48 month isn’t too bad, just keep your miles low (lower than your contracted allowance) and you can probably end your lease in advance by trading it in, you might even get some money back.
