My Take: The July BMW numbers are out and it looks better than June. There’s been drops in money factor for most models and trims while the residual numbers have carried over from last month. Not a bad time to get into a BMW right now. Just make sure you find the right balance between the sale price, residual and money factor in order to net the monthly payment you can afford. Here’s a sample number crunch for a 2011 BMW 128i with the value package on a 36mo/12k mile lease term. The MSRP is $32850 and the assumed sale price is $31000. Before taxes, you would be looking at approximately $379 per month, with the usual inception fees due at singing (around $1500 bucks). This is about the same amount of money I pay for my 2008 G37. logo_bmw My Take: Overall, some of the lease rates have come down on a good number of 2011 models. To sweeten things up a bit, BMWFS also added some cash rebates on certain models, such of the $1840 AWD credit and the diesel credit of $4500. It isn’t a bad month to get a BMW since the residuals are strong and the money factors have come down since the 2011’s rolled into dealerships. I am personally liking the 135i right now. Solid residual and a .0004 point drop in the money factor. That’s savings right there.

logo_bmw My Take: Here are May’s 2011 1-series, 3-series and 5-series numbers for your viewing pleasure. Residuals are great, but the money factors are a bit high for my taste. You will not see any cash floating around for the 2011s, but select 2010 models have marketing cash that can be used for leases. You can check the list here on Edmunds.

My parents are gearing up to leave town this Thursday, so I have been spending a lot of time with them (running errands, traveling, etc…). I know I haven’t gotten around to some rates, so instead of commenting them, I will simply post them and leave you with a general guide line…

Multiply the money factor by 2400 to get the interest rate you are being charged.
Any residual value below 50% should warrant HEAVY consideration BEFORE leasing.
Don’t forget to factor sales taxes.
Use can use TruCar.com to get an idea of the price range you are looking at. They seem to be fairly accurate (but not precise).

The 3-series deals should remain unchanged for the month. I don’t have 2011 numbers yet, so I will update the site as they show up. I will keep my eyes open on those number so you need not worry. logo_bmw My Take: For the 5-series, there is some dealer cash and spring drive cash to be had. Not as much as you’d expect, but the dealer cash is hefty. I didn’t get a chance to check all trims, but we are talking $5000-$7500. There are some restrictions, so be sure to check in with your dealer to see if you qualify (5-series incentives). The 6-series gets a boat load of dealer cash, but it cannot be combined with leases so there isn’t much of a point addressing that. Lastly, the 7-series looks exactly the same as last month so feel free to take a pass on this one. Of course, if you are a high level executive and your company leases you cars, you can get whatever you want, whenever you want.

logo_bmw My Take: I hope those shopping for a 1-series got in last month’s rates because things look pretty ugly this month. Residual drops 2% accross the board and MF on the 128 coupe jumps above .00200. There are some adjustments on the 135s, but nothing to write home about. On the 3-series, you are looking a HUGE drop in residual values (as much as 5%!!!). You can see BMWFS tried to compensate by dropping money factors, but really, does it really help? I’m not seeing it. I know you are all waiting for the “Good News” part of this post, so here it is. BMW’s “Spring Drive” is here, so they are providing $1,500 in customer cash on the 1-series and $2,500 on the 3 (except for the diesel) to offset the crummy residual values. This is actually NOT a bad thing because your payoff amount will be lower, should you choose to sell the car or buy it out at the end of the lease. Just remember that the more expensive the car is, the less of an impact the cash will have, so don’t expect miracles.

logo_bmw My Take: Nothing to get excited about on this list since you’ll either see poor residuals or poor money factors. There are is about $10k cash to dealer on the 6s. Unfortunately, it only applies to those who pay cash so no point getting into that.
