logo_bmw My Take: For the 5-series, there is some dealer cash and spring drive cash to be had. Not as much as you’d expect, but the dealer cash is hefty. I didn’t get a chance to check all trims, but we are talking $5000-$7500. There are some restrictions, so be sure to check in with your dealer to see if you qualify (5-series incentives). The 6-series gets a boat load of dealer cash, but it cannot be combined with leases so there isn’t much of a point addressing that. Lastly, the 7-series looks exactly the same as last month so feel free to take a pass on this one. Of course, if you are a high level executive and your company leases you cars, you can get whatever you want, whenever you want.

logo_bmw My Take: Nothing to get excited about on this list since you’ll either see poor residuals or poor money factors. There are is about $10k cash to dealer on the 6s. Unfortunately, it only applies to those who pay cash so no point getting into that.

logo_bmw My Take: None of these rides are cars that I normally shop for, so I don’t have too much to say about them. The lease rates look decent on the 6 series due to its high residual value, so it is safe to look into leasing one of those this month. As you know, there’s some customer cash of about $2500 you can use on the 6-series, so be sure to apply that to your sale price. MSDs should also be used to bring down the MF further (if you have the extra cash). In case you don’t know what MSDs are, they are basically security deposits you pay in order to bring down the money factor. They are full refundable at lease-end or in the event of a total-loss accident or theft.

If you get sick of waiting for me to post the remaining BMW numbers, just head back to the September rates and use those numbers. As always, if anything changes, I will revise the posts.

logo_bmw My Take: Nothing too exciting to announce here. 2010 6-series is unchanged from last month. 2010 7-series is as aweful as usual. 2009 are looking a bit better still. Just remember not to wait too long; As we enter the 2010 model year, 2009 selection dwindles and leases become less attractive due to the lower residual value. Feel free to pass on both of these vehicles this month, but keep a watchful eye on the 2009.

09 BMW Z4, 6-Series, 7-Series Lease Rates – August 2009

logo_bmw My Take: Rounding off the BMW lease rates, the Z4, 6-series and 7-series all have pretty decent leases rates in my opinion. Nothing that would want me to add them to the list, though. These cars have high enough residuals (except for the 7-series, which has low money factors) that putting down some MSDs should help lower the over monthly payment on the lease. If you don’t know what MSDs are, please raise your hand. Now here’s an email I got from Jake some weeks ago explaining why MSDs are a good thing:

“Hi G
I just to let you know I turned on my brother to your site. He was going to put $3k plus fees down to help with cap cost (lower) payment, but after seeing your site he put 8 MSDs to buy down the money factor. Fast forward 3 months, his X5 is gone (crash); he’s fine; INS. Gap, etc. takes care of it all. He saved a few grand just by reading your site. From the whole “M” famly THANKS for the info.”

There you have it folks, go with MSDs if the money factor is too high. Surprisingly enough, most people opt for cap reduction, which is just plain silly. So before you decide to put money down, ask your dealer if the bank allows you to buy down the money factor. You just might be glad you did.

logo_bmw My Take: Don’t know what to say about the 2010 Sixes. Residual is not bad for the most part, but the money factor needs work. The better option is still to buy them because you pay less in interest overall (3.9% vs 4.8%). Not an astronomical difference, but you are talking about a $80k+ car here.
