logo_bmw My Take: Apologies for a fairly quiet April (so far). My parents are gearing up to leave town this Thursday, so I have been spending a lot of time with them (running errands, traveling, etc…). I know I haven’t gotten around to some rates, so instead of commenting them, I will simply post them and leave you with a general guide line…

Multiply the money factor by 2400 to get the interest rate you are being charged.
Any residual value below 50% should warrant HEAVY consideration BEFORE leasing.
Don’t forget to factor sales taxes.
Use can use TruCar.com to get an idea of the price range you are looking at. They seem to be fairly accurate (but not precise).

logo_bmw My Take: For the 5-series, there is some dealer cash and spring drive cash to be had. Not as much as you’d expect, but the dealer cash is hefty. I didn’t get a chance to check all trims, but we are talking $5000-$7500. There are some restrictions, so be sure to check in with your dealer to see if you qualify (5-series incentives). The 6-series gets a boat load of dealer cash, but it cannot be combined with leases so there isn’t much of a point addressing that. Lastly, the 7-series looks exactly the same as last month so feel free to take a pass on this one. Of course, if you are a high level executive and your company leases you cars, you can get whatever you want, whenever you want.

logo_bmw My Take: I’m not feeling the 5-series this month. The residuals are not bad compared to other brands, but by BMW standards, they aren’t very high. Typically, you would expect BMWFS to drop the money factors to compensate for a lower residual, but not in this case. With no rebates in sight, I would suggest taking a pass on the 5-series, for now. But if you must have one, please be advised that a newly-redesigned model is in the horizon, which means that there should be a “fire sale” at some point before 2011 model arrives.

logo_bmw My Take: More of the same from last month. The $2500 holiday lease cash is still around through January 4th, 2010. Again, if you can wait until the latter part of the month, you may have better luck with your negotiations.

logo_bmw My Take: As expected, the 5-Series did take a pretty significant jump on the money factor, making financing the lease loan significantly more expensive than last month. Is there an upside to all of this? Sort of. BMWFS introduced $2500 Holiday Cash for customers who finance through them, which isnt’ too bad. In this case the lower MF than the customer/dealer cash because the difference in the interest charge incurred in this month’s lease (compared to last month) will more than likely exceed $2500. Not to mention the fact that cash rebates are often taxed.

2010 BMW 5-Series Lease Rates – October 2009

logo_bmw My Take: 5-series numbers unchanged since August. Pretty lease rates if you ask me. If these MFs would show up on the 1-series, I think you’d have a really awesome lease on those right now. In any case, not a horrible time to get into a 5 right now. Couple things I’d like to point out again in case you missed it last time I mentioned it. First off, BMWFS seems to have adjust their residual values since the 2009 models. Take the 2009 528i for example:

2009 BMW 528i Sedan
24 Month – Residual 65% of MSRP – .00200 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 59% of MSRP – .00200 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 39% of MSRP – .00285 Base Rate
60 Month – Residual 32% of MSRP – .00285 Base Rate

The 24-month terms took a 3% hit while the 36-month term took a 1% hit. The good thing is that BMWFS adjusted their MF to compensate for some of that loss in residual. The jump in price tag between 2009 and 2010 was only about $300, so payments should be around the same as last October on the 36-month terms.

logo_bmw My Take: 5-Series lease rates look unchanged from August, which is not such a bad thing since the lease rates are pretty reasonable. I’d like to note that auto sales should take a dive this month (compared to last month) due to the fact that the Cash for Clunkers deal has expired. This may be a good thing since you might be able to get more pricing for your leases. I’d like to remind you that when you contact your dealer, you should already a sale price and monthly payment range in mind. This will make things easier on you and your dealer. Don’t ask the dealer to make you an offer because you will spend a lot of time going back-and-forth, which generally results in much added stress for both parties. Ideally, inquire about all the fees, you should to work your numbers, THEN make your offer to the dealer. This would be the most effective/painless way to go.

2010 BMW 5-Series Lease Rates – August 2009

logo_bmw My Take: 5-series and M5 lease rates remain unchanged for August, which is pretty good still. I believe the 5-series does qualify for this “pulling ahead” program BMW is doing. I think it is similar to all the lease cash the 3-series is getting right now. If any of you are interested, I’ll ask Dave for more info. I checked on Edmunds and they have the standard “advertised” lease program you see on TV and BMWUSA.
