2011 Porsche Lease Rates – January 2011

The Cayenne is probably not the most attractive lease out there right now, which explains the crummy RWG rating. The residual is okay, but the MF could use some dropping. In addition, a measly $1300 discount on a nearly $50,000 ride is just not enough to justify leasing one. I would recommend shopping for a more attractive lease loan or maybe using a brokers to see if they can beat the dealer price. Alternatively, you could always wait since it’s still early in the year.

On an unrelated note, how do you like the pic for this post? I believe it’s a pristine 1953 Porsche 356 Roadster. I’m not a huge classic cars guy, but I truly appreciate the uniqueness of something like this.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2011 Mercedes-Benz Lease Rates – January 2011

Here’s a partial list of Mercedes-Benz lease rates. I’ll add more as they become available. Clearly last December was the better month to lease a C300. I believe the C300s are due for a mid-cycle refresh, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see prices drop as we approach summertime.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2011 Mazda Lease Rates – January 2011

Sorry gang, the Mazda forums have been a bit dry these past couple weeks so this is all I have managed to dig up. As a consolidation, I have sample payment calculations for both vehicles. The 3 and the CX9 look good this month. As long as your negotiated sale price is low, I think you should be able to manage a good deal.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2011 Mazda3 i Sport
MSRP – $17,855
Sale Price – $16,576 (average paid assumed. Lowest price data not available)
Monthly – $181+ tax
RWG Rating – 95.67

2011 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring FWD
MSRP – $33,595
Sale Price – $27,343
Monthly – $333+ tax
RWG Rating – 97.36

2011 Ford Lease Rates – January 2011

My first impression on the Explorer’s numbers is that it isn’t half bad. I’ve seen much worse. However, getting a good deal here ultimately comes down to the final sale price, which is (at best) only a 4% discount from MSRP here in Southern California. Not very good if you ask me. I didn’t expect the Explorer to lease well since the Edge isn’t that much better. If Ford were to discount around 10% instead, I could see this being a better lease. Until that happens, I would recommend looking elsewhere for your next SUV.

2011 Hyundai Lease Rates – January 2011

I’m quite happy that Hyundai has actually been provided some great lease rates over the past year. I think its a smart move on their part since leasing is probably one of the quickest ways to get their cars out there on the road and get some of that coveted US market share. Over the nearly three years that I have been maintaining this blog, I have seen Hyundai go from a brand that folks didn’t trust (I’m was one of them) to a brand that people are actually looking to lease (I’m one of them as well). Quite the turn around if you ask me. There isn’t anything here I wouldn’t lease, so if you don’t mind getting into a Hyundai, any one of them will do. One thing that is disappointing is that according to TrueCar, sale prices have gone up about 3% lately. I was seeing 10% off MSRP in Nov/Dec. Now is around 6%-7%.

Test Drive : 2011 Ford Edge SEL

Last month during the holidays, I got a chance to spend about 30+ minutes with the 2011 Ford Edge SEL. I played around with the Touch system, explored the interior and all it’s compartments, and took it around the block on a test drive. Here are my impressions of the Ford Edge, which my local dealer claims it’s selling like hot-cakes and justifies a $2000 mark-up (Yeah, right).

Drive – Plenty of torque and the engine was quite smooth. The suspension did a decent job absorbing the uneven pavement, like all CUVs should. The cabin is quiet and sound insulation is above average. Handling was a bit too floaty for my taste, but this may be biased since I prefer cars over trucks. The Edge drives like a car twice its size, but it’s still manageable in tight quarters.

Interior Features & Quality – Ford has improved their interior materials, however, it is still a notch below other brands it tries to compete with. Leather felt hard and cheap. Door panels are made of hard plastic, but you can still push these panels in without much effort, which makes them appear rather flimsy. The dash is made of soft rubber, which is pleasant to the touch. Panoramic moonroof is nice, but seems to require more involvement than the usual “one-touch” moonroofs I am accustomed to.  The voice-activated Sync system worked like a charm. My sales man had a very heavy accent and it still managed to set the correct temperature on the first try. MyFord Touch is feature-rich, but poorly executed. I consider myself  a tech-savvy individual, but after about 15 minutes dabbling in it, the only thing I managed to do is learn how to navigate through the radio. One of the features I did like was sharing your 3G-enabled device’s internet and turning the car into a wifi hotspot. Unfortunately, the interface was somewhat sluggish and it’s touch-sensitive screen required more than a few touches to navigate from menu to menu. The overall touch user-interface was not intuitive and I think the average person may find it too complicated and/or distracting to use while driving. I recommend waiting for the next-gen MyFord Touch and see if Ford address some of the shortcomings of the current system.

Cargo – Pretty decent cargo space, specially when rear-seats are folded down making it extremely practical. SEL model has one-touch release buttons to fold down the back seats, very cool.

MPG – 19/27 mpg, which is very good for a CUV of this size. The SE model gets 1 less MPG highway, which I can’t quite understand why.

Price –  Starting at $27k (SE model), this truck comes with a decent array of standard features. However, fancy features like Bluetooth, leather and Nav are optional. Opt for the top of the line Sport model and you will be paying upwards of $41k. The SEL model I test drive was priced around $36k, plus a dealer mark-up of about $2000, which bumped it up to about $38k.

Overall – In terms of value, I find the Edge overpriced, even without the dealer mark-up. Sure, the Touch system cannot be found in any other non-Ford vehicle at the moment, but it’s user-friendliness seems to negate all that wonderful technology. The qualify and craftsmanship is definitely a step above what Ford has produced in the past, however, it is still a step below some of the other CUVs it tries to compete against in this price range.

Recommendation – Despite it’s shortcomings, it is still a solid CUV and the Ecoboost engine should only make the Edge that much more appealing (for a price). If I were in the market for a CUV (which I sort of am at the moment), I would probably opt for the SE which tops out slightly above $29k. You still get a nice set of standard features and it doesn’t exactly break the bank.

2011 Nissan Lease Rates – January 2011

Before we begin, the following lease rates are for entry-level models. If you are looking for a more “optioned” model, you will probably pay more. With that said, it looks like the Sentra remains a good deal despite a 1% drop in residual value because the MF was dropped to balance things out. The Murano also dropped 1%, but the bank apparently didn’t change the MF, so payments may end up a bit more than last month (however it all depends on the final sale price). Overall, I think there are some good leases here since residual values are so high in some of these models, specially on the Sentra S.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

MSRP – $18,200
Sale Price – $16,305 (sale price adjusted since $2500 rebate does not apply to leases)

What He’s Got: 2011 Royal Blue Honda Civic LX Sedan

The Story:

First let me give a HUGE thanks to BouncewithB for his outstanding advise and knowledge.  He also has a really cool car that has been posted on the Wall and should be checked out.  I’ve seen it in person and it is a sweet ride.  Anyways, he introduced me to this site and took some time to talk to me about the in’s and out’s on leasing.  Without his time and help, I would probably not even considered doing a lease.

With that said, I ended up getting 2011 Honda Civic as seen in the pic.  It was a leasing special they were running and I believe G had even posted it as the 2nd best leasing offer for the month of December.  The lease was no money down, no first month payment, 35 months (with first payment due and paid for by the dealership at signing) for a total of $219 a month taxes included ($202 base without taxes.)  The only thing I paid was ttl which was about $150.  Gross Capitalized Cost: $18811 – Depreciation: $6842 – Rent charge: $454 – 12,000 yr. – I was very happy with the lease and am very satisfied by my car.  It may not be the best lease ever obtained, but this is optimally suited for me.

Prior to this I had a 96 Mustang that I have owned out-right for the past six years.  Well, I have recently gotten engaged and used the money I’ve been saving for a new car towards one heck of a diamond ring for my fiance.  Needless to say, literally a month and a half later, the head gaskets blew on that Mustang and so I had no car and little cash.

I had gotten so used of not paying monthly for a car that the thought of the lease scared me (not to mention all the horror stories that I have heard and confusing terms that come along with the agreement.)  So I decided to go used car shopping.  Forget it.  Down here, the used cars that are worth what you spend on them are the rare finds and I could not find a good deal on trustworthy car after EXTENSIVE research.

Anyways, I learned BouncewithB leases and asked him about it and he led me here and gave me some tips.  Thanks to this website and B, I am leasing my first car.  This website is extremely valuable to anyone even thinking about leasing and the straight forward and honest enthusiasm for the “Art of the Lease” makes this website a winner.  The calculator was real handy too.  Thanks for all the info to G and his staff and a SPECIAL thanks to BouncewithB.

RoyallyBlue

My Take: CONGRATULATIONS (one the new car and the engagement!) Glad to hear the site has not only has helped you get a new set of wheels, but also save you money when you needed it most. Definitely gotta give BouncewithB a shoutout on this one. He’s been a huge help to me as well over the years with his advice and support. $219 is cheap with no money down so you did extremely well there! Congrats again!
