2012-13 Volvo Lease Rates – January 2012

I know this is late, but I just got these numbers a couple days ago, plus I’ve been slammed with work at the office and at home. Better late than never I say. I think that these numbers should remain useful through the month of February anyway, so you technically have more than a month to use them. As always, any changes will be posted. Oh, before I forget, notice the 2013 lease rates for the XC90! Nice and early!

I honestly think that Volvo has done a good job crawling back into the leasing landscape. Their rates are very competitive and their discounts are decent. I’m seeing about 4% to 5% off MSRP in the SoCal region for S60s via TrueCar. Not a huge discount, but $1000 loyalty cash is available. Please note that the financing rates are quite competitive as well should you choose to buy instead. Last month’s RWG rating on the S60 T5 was about 93.0. This month, we’re looking at around 90.2. Yes, the deal isn’t as good as during the Holiday season, but January leases rarely are. However, this rating is still within the “GOOD LEASE” range.

Lease rates was made available by the good folks at North Point Volvo. If you are in or near the Alpharetta, GA area and looking for a Volvo, please give them a call.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Kia Lease Rates – January 2012

Okay, I will say it…”Kia has officially entered the leasing world.” I’ve been keeping an eye on Kia leases over the last six months or so and it seems like Kia is legitimately trying to make their leases affordable enough to compete with the best brands. Hyundai was doing it for the better part of last year with the Sonata, but Kia seems to be pushing the Optima into our world more consistently now. Sure, the Optima EX Turbo lease is still not as good as the Sonata SE Turbo, but it’s getting pretty darn close.

I am a bit weary of the “high” MFs though. There is cash to offset it so it makes the lease reasonable. Hyundai is doing the same thing. What worries me is what happens AFTER the cash is pulled away. Will they lower the MF enough to keep the lease around the same ballpark? One has to wonder.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Kia Optima EX Turbo
MSRP – $25,850
Sale Price – $22,955 ($1000 lease cash applied)

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – January 2012

If you are scared of the money factors, don’t. Hyundai is throwing money at leases in order to make things look more reasonable. Take the Sonata for example, you have $1500 lease cash AND $500 loyalty. Edmunds doesn’t state whether they can be combined or not, but I really don’t see why you couldn’t.

As you can see in my calculation below, the lease payments look decent. If you aren’t a current Hyundai customer, expect payments to be around $310 range since you will not be qualified for the extra $500 in cash. Even then, I think the lease is still a strong one.

2012 Acura Lease Rates – January 2012

The usual drop in residual/money factor here. Acura still has lease cash of $1500 available on the TL. $2000 on the RL. I didn’t see anything on the TSX, so I don’t think I would lease one of those right now. Going back to the TL, the lease still looks very good. TrueCar indicates a 11% off MSRP discount without incentives. But they also have a disclaimer saying that Acura dealers may not honor their “best price” quote. What I think will happen is this: Dealers will honor a sale price around that ballpark, but they will not give you the $1500 cash that’s available on that car. In order words, 11%-12% off MSRP with the incentive sounds about right.

2012 Volkswagen Lease Rates – January 2012

VW money factors are really good this month. The problem is that the residual and discounts off MSRP are just “okay” on most models. Not exactly a recipe for great leases if you ask me. If you factor the “trade-in” issue and disposition fees, VW leases begin to look somewhat unattractive.

Oh! Here’s a random VW related incident. Last weekend, as I washed my wife’s Jetta, I noticed the sheet metal of the passenger side’s door was loose. Apparently a screw came off, which was weird. In the nearly 20 years I have been driving cars, I’ve never experienced that. Dealer fixed it quickly and it really wasn’t a huge deal, but it did get me thinking about the long-term longevity of VWs as a whole. Funny how such trivial things leave such big impressions on me. LOL.

2012 Lexus Lease Rates – January 2012

Lease rates during the Holidays were a lot better than this month. No surprise there. January has never been the best time to lease cars. Buying is not bad because special financing usually carries over from the Holiday Season. It’s even better when you can find an unsold 2011 models since discounts are even more significant.

On a brighter note, the convertibles do sport a pretty good residual and decent money factor. TrueCar reports about 10% discount off MSRP in the SoCal market, so it might be worth a look. Check out the calculation below to get an idea where your payments would start.

2012 Mercedez-Benz Lease Rates – January 2012

Through the month of January, MBFS is offering $2000 in loyalty cash to existing lessees on the C-Class. You can even use that on the new coupe! Making this a pretty sweet lease. I still think MBs lease at a slightly lower monthly payment at 48 months, but 36-months is ideal if you want to keep wear and tear to a minimum. If you are currently leasing a MB and your lease is coming to an end, this might not be a bad month to get into a new one. The dealer isn’t going to discount a lot (I’m seeing a measly 3% off MSRP), but with the bonus cash, I think the deal looks pretty darn good.

2012 Honda Lease Rates – January 2012

Honda numbers got a little worse this month. Residuals did drop on most models, but MF were also lowered to compensate. Some models did get a MF bump though (Pilot and CrossTour, to name a couple), but they are still fairly decent leases for vehicles in their respective class. I expect lease rates to remain the same through the end of February, so if you don’t like what you are seeing, hold out to see what March numbers will look like.

Last month’s Pilot EX-L 4WD lease came in at a 92.4 RWG rating. This month it comes in at 88.1, which is not as good due to MF bump and slightly higher average sale price.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 HONDA PILOT 4WD EX-L
MSRP – $36,980
