2012-13 Volvo Lease Rates – March 2012

Residual drops 1%-2% with MF dropping to keep things within a reasonable payment range (relative to last month).

For the S60 specifically, there is $1000 loyalty (available to your household) and $1000 conquest (available to owners of Acura, Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, or Volkswagen). This is good news because it helps drop the sale price down to about 7.5% off MSRP assuming you qualify for either of these rebates. The S60 T5 is a good lease right now and it’s a pretty sweet ride, just check out Nick’s S60 T5 and you will see why the S60 is a good alternative to any other ride around this price range. It also comes with Volvo’s complimentary Safe + Secure Coverage Plan which will take care of you through the life of the lease.

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – March 2012

Hyundai residuals have dropped about 1% for most models (the Santa Fe drops by 3%, probably because a newly redesign model is just around the corner) but the MF carries over from last month unchanged. A reduction in residual without MF adjustment usually means your payments will jump compared to last month. Expect about $6-$7 change per month. Nothing outrageous, but worth noting.

Looking at the Sonata 2.0T SE calculation below, you will see how the lease payments are up slightly compared to last month. That’s not to say that you should expect that payment. On the contrary, these calculations are based on last month’s sales data, so I would encourage your to push for a bigger discount (before the rebates). Overall, I think Hyundai has entrenched themselves in the leasing world and not only do they have attractive lease programs, but they also have a good crop of highly sought-after cars too.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Nissan Lease Rates – March 2012

Residuals have dropped and MFs have dropped along with them. This doesn’t apply to all models, but most. The 24-month leases on the Altima is still there. But the lease cash has changed. You will see a $1000 spring loyalty cash and a $1330 leasing bonus cash for new customers. The spring loyalty cash requires that your existing lease ends between now and the beginning of April.

How how does the Altima S look this month? Good, but not as good as last month. The good news is that the cash is not limited to returning customers.  If you are a returning customer, you should check with your dealer if you can combine the two cash rebates (Edmunds.com doesn’t not state if they can be combined or not).  Should they allow it, you would be looking at a lease just as good as last month’s.

The THING about TrueCar.com

As you have probably noticed since yesterday, TrueCar.com stopped posting the dealer cost and factory invoice pricing on their website for some of you. From what I understand, this was not done “across the board”. Per my email communication with a TrueCar representative, here is what’s going on:

We have hidden the Dealer Cost and Invoice information on our pricing curve due to regulatory issues in several states, but the features should be available again in most states as early as next week.

In addition, she also said…

For those located in located in VA, TX, MD, CO, WA, OK, OR, NE or LA, we are working through certain features of our site with regulators and hope to be able to provide the more robust version of our curve soon.

So there you have it! It looks like a “temporary issue”. This goes back to that Twitter post I made yesterday (http://t.co/AP8XFNbc) about how some local agencies are having issues with the “price guarantee”, which was replaced by “market price” not too long ago.

In response to the Compete.com’s article I posted, I think there’s some truth to what’s happening with TrueCar. However, I do not think that the January decline mentioned in the article is a prediction of TrueCar’s future. I too received a noticeable decline in viewership and referrals which I attribute to the fact that months of January and February are typically HORRIBLE months for auto deals. Most people do take advantage of the DEALS during the holiday season, so buying cars (after spending a fortune on gifts) isn’t really in the cards for most people.

If I had to predict TrueCar’s future, here is what I think is going to happen…

TrueCar will continue to provide useful information to consumers in the short run. There will be some legal issues they need to work through, but I think the bulk the of the push back isn’t going to come from city and state regulators, but from dealers. Dealers profit by keeping consumers ” in the dark” and TrueCar’s business model seems to irritate dealers and manufacturers because it cuts into their profits. I suspect there will be a lot of pressure from dealers and manufacturers which will affect TrueCar’s business model. After all, we buy our cars from dealers, not TrueCar.

2012 Lexus Lease Rates – March 2012

No clear pattern here. Lexus seems to have kept a lot of the residuals the same and improved on many model’s MF as well. However, there are a few models that either got a drop in residual or a bump in MF. Seems rather random to me. Nevertheless, the popular models either stayed the same or improved a bit.

Looking at the CT200H, gas prices have bumped the sale price of this car above MSRP. Why anyone would want to pay a premium just to save a little bit on gas is beyond me.

2012 Mercedes-Benz Lease Rates – March 2012

Bad News: TrueCar is no longer displaying factory/dealer invoice pricing. This will make negotiating a bit more difficult, but not impossible.

Worst News: MBFS kept the residuals intact, but bumped the MF on many of their vehicles including the C-Class sedans. To add insult to injury, MB also changed the loyalty cash from $2000 to $1000. The C250 Coupe just got about $30 bucks more expensive (see calculation below).

Good News: TrueCar seems to have reinstated the Dealer/Factory Invoice pricing back into their website. WooHoo! Looks like I celebrated too early. It’s offline again…*sigh*

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Honda Lease Rates – March 2012

Most models dropped about 1% to 2%  in residual value this month with the exception of newly introduced/redesigned models. Those remained the same. Strangely enough, Honda did not lower the MF on most of the cars that lost residual value. There are a few exceptions, such as the Pilot and the CrossTour, but it seems Honda is trying to capitalize on their more “fuel efficient” lineup due to higher prices as the pump.

2012 Volkswagen Lease Rates – March 2012

VW just bumped the lease cash for the CC by $250 bucks AND is providing 0% financing for up to 72 month!!!! There is a drop in residual value, so I think the extra cash was introduced to offset that (keeping the lease exactly the same as Feb). The MF is already very low (0.00009 vs 0.00012 in Feb) so there was only so much they could go before having to drop some more money at it.

Either way you go (lease of finance), I think you’ll find that a good deal can be had on the CC this month.
