October 2008 Lease Rate for 08/09 MINI Cooper

My Take: The MINI Coopers are looking quite good this month with the 09 models out, you can take advantange of the super high residual values. The money factors are less than desirable, but the residual does help offset the high interest. Word of caution, this car has boat load of options, the more you add, the more expensive it gets. There aren’t any major inceptives here, but you can probably get the lowest rate without a security deposit. Expect payments in the mid-$300 to high-$300 range for a well-equipped model of the Cooper S and high-$200, low-$300 for the base Cooper.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 08/09 Infiniti M35, FX35, QX56

My Take: A lot going on at Infiniti this month…there’s about $4000 loyalty cash and $2000 lease cash for the FX35. While the M35 has $6000 dealer and $1500 sell down cash available. Edmunds suggest that the TMV price is a whopping $10k below MSRP. That’s freaking cheap! Unfortunately, I don’t think you can get that much off MSRP if you finance or lease, so take my lowest estimate with “a grain of salt”. However, invoice + $1500 cash shouldn’t be too outrageous of an asking price. Speaking of financing, 0.9% APR is available for up to 72 months in case you want to buy this car. Couple things to note, the M35 & F35 lease best at 36 months and possibly 39 months (I don’t know the rates for that term unfortunately) It is a good time to buy or lease Infiniti folks, no question about it.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 09 VW GTI

My Take: The 09 GTI looks like a pretty good deal right now. With just inception fees, your payments should hover in the mid 300s range after taxes with just inception fees. Thanks in part by a $500 rebate from the manufacturer. The residual value drop from 24 to 36 months is relatively small, so the 36 month is a much better deal, potentially saving you thousands of dollars. Not a bad time to get into a 09 VW GTI if you ask me.

GM & Chrysler hold merger talks

General Motors has held discussions about acquiring Chrysler, The New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported late Friday.

The talks between GM and Cerberus Capital Management, which owns Chrysler, began more than a month ago, the Times reported on its Web site.

The Journal reported that the talks were “rendered inactive” because of the upheaval in financial markets but that people familiar with the developments said the talks could be revived quickly if markets stabilize.

Two people close to the talks told the Times the chances of a merger were “50-50.”

“Holy Auto Merger Batman!” Can you imagine how things will turn out if this happens…will GM quality drop to Chrysler standards? Or will Chrysler quality raise to GM standards? Or perhaps they are both too low to matter? Either way they shakes out, I am suspecting that GM may be on the verge of pulling out of leasing completely.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Toyota Highlander

My Take: A $1000 rebate is still available for the Toyota Highlander this month. The good news is that, the MF dropped a bit, but the residual also dropped. In the end the payments should be pretty close to last months. Be sure to secure a low sale price and tack on the $1000 rebate on top of that. Sales are slow right now, dealerships are like ghostowns. If you have excellect credit, this is the time to get into a new car. NOTE: I applied a $1000 rebate to the invoice and MSRP when calculating payments. You should at the most pay $1000 under MSRP. Personally, I think you should be paying $1000 under invoice.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 09 Acura TSX

My Take: No lease support this month on the 09 TSX still. For those who haven’t noticed, this car’s price tag went up nearly $800 from the 08 model. The residuals are still very strong, so if they can cut the MF down by 50%, we’ll be looking at a better lease deal. To put things in perspective, back in 07, I leased my wife’s TSX for $295 a month + tax with about $750 DOD. That’s $295 + tax with the acquisition fee rolled in! These numbers I am churning out require you to pay for the acquisition fee upfront. Yickes! The 48 month lease is looking rather promising at $352 per month + tax at invoice. Not a whole lot less than the 36 month, but better than nothing. Personally, I’d rather go with a 36 month lease and drop the mileage down to 12k a year. That should net you similar lease payments. I personally wouldn’t lease this car yet, still too early. Please note how 24-month leases have gradually become worse in the past few months. This may be trend-setting. I may have to change THE LIST from 24/36 month numbers to 36/48 month numbers. I don’t forsee leases from captive banks to go away completely, but the better deals will certainly be for longer terms.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Infiniti G35/G37

My Take: Congrats to those who were able to get super cheap 24mo leases on the Gs. Why? because you can’t now! In response to the horrendous financial meltdown we are having here country-wide, it seems that captive banks are shying away from those short-term leasing and sticking with the 36mo and 48mo terms. I’ve picked out the G35 Journey, G35x and the G37 Journey for payment calculations. This doesn’t mean that they lease best, on the contrary, they have the worst residual/mf combo (with the G35x being the exception). The reason I’ve selected them is because they are the more “popular” models. Most people don’t opt for the base model, so no point calculating those. Besides, base models are harder to come by. You may also want to consider the 48 month lease because the residual doesn’t drop too much. The money factor does drop further and your payments are spread out by another 12 months, making your payments cheaper.

Mazda $500 Owner Loyalty Cash

You can use this rebate with leases as well, but it is limited to current Mazda owners. Click HERE for more details. This rebate only applies to the 08/09 Mazda CX-7, CX-9 or the new MAZDA6. You can probably get invoice pricing on these cars now (or below), so another $500 for current owners certainly sweetens the deal that much more.

In other news, we got a new Mazda3 in the horizon. Doesn’t look too bad now does it?
