My Take: Here’s a list of the “bad” 09 Mercedes Benz leases. If you are looking to lease any of the following cars, you may want to rethink that if you are shopping for a deal. Poor residual value and/or high money factors are never a good combination, even if you manage to get the dealer to lease the car at below invoice price. There’s just way too much interest and/or too much depreciation that even cash discounts can’t overcome, so try to avoid the following cars.

November 2008 Lease Rates for 09 MINI Cooper

My Take: This month’s MINI Cooper S lease rates are pretty weird. The 24 month lease at invoice is actually cheaper than the 36 month lease at invoice. However, if you get it at MSRP, the 24 month lease is more expensive than the 36 month lease. That means that you should probably go with the MSRP pricing because MINI doesn’t discount their cars much, if any. Relatively cheap, but keep in mind that the more options you add, the more expensive this car gets. It is safe to say that your lease will probably start at around $286 and go up from there depending on your options. I’ve been trying to get the wife to warm up to the idea of leasing a MINI when her TSX is up but she’s not biting. I guess she’s more of a Mercedes Benz type of gal. LOL. Oh boy!

My Take: Here are the remaining lease rates for the 09 Audi lineup. Compared to the previous post, these are the “better” leases in my opinion. The A4 is still leasing for about the same, but folks seem to be able to get deeper discounts on the sale price compared to a few months ago. Too bad TMV doesn’t reflect this. They are still estimating that most people pay MSRP for the A4…seriously, who in their right mind would pay MSRP in these economic times!?!

November 2008 Lease Rate for 09 BMW Models

My Take: Finally! The comprehensive list of 09 BMW lease rates is out! The 1-series practically remains unchanged, but BMWFS seems to have cut the money factors a bit on the 3-series, with the residual values remaining unchanged. That good news for those looking to get into a the 3-series. The 1-series is worth a look still due to it’s unusually high residual value. Other notable models include the 528i and the X5. Please keep in mind that BMW dealers seem to be oblivious to the fact that there is a recession going on, so they won’t exactly lease you the car for “dirt cheap”. If you were hoping for that, you will be sorely disappointed. Now, if you are looking to buy, there is 0.9% financing available on select 09 models so it may be worth considering a purchase.

November 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Ford Edge

My Take: It’s been a quiet start of the month this time around. Not a lot of lease numbers seem to have popped up in many places. Hopefully none of you are in dire need to jump into a car within the next 24 hours. With that said, this is the one of the few cars I’ve been able to find lease rates of thus far. Ford is offering a lot of cash inceptives here, so because to take advantage of them (Incentive). Essentially, the cash will be used to offset the poor the residual value since the money factor is insignificant. The numbers below reflect the $3000 rebate, if you qualify for others, your payments should be even lower. This rate is only valid until Nov 18th, whether Ford Credit extends this is still up in the air. With the current economic environment, anything is possible.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 09 Ford Flex

My Take: How Ford calls the Flex a crossover simply baffles me. I am thinking it’s more like a minivan with optional AWD. Anyway, it doesn’t look like a bad time to jump into a Ford Flex right now. The residual value is low, but there’s $2500 in incentives available and the money factor is about .000625 or 1.5%, which is pretty low. This is for a 09 model mind you. You won’t hear me say this very often, but you may want to pay a visit to your Ford dealer if you’ve had your eye on the Flex. My sister actually likes this car because it has a minifridge. LOL. Priorites…Please keep in mind that I take the $2500 rebate into consideration when I estimate the payments below. If it looks lower than what you are getting, that’s probably because you didn’t include the rebate.

Leasing a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T?

Recently, I started noticing a few Dodge Challengers popping out on the street. I must admit, they do look good from the outside, but I don’t care for the fact that Chrysler decided to scrap the interior of the prototype and went with a cheesy clone of other Chrysler cars. I’m sure the decision has a lot to do with cost cutting, nevertheless, the car itself is an icon and a very nostalgia-inspiring one at that. I won’t lie to you, I was waiting for it this year but the stars didn’t align properly and I ended up with the G37 instead. Which in retrospect, was probably the better deal for me. Anyway, I don’t have the lease rates for the Challenge if that’s what you are looking for. If you are new to the leasing world, you probably should know that Chrysler Corp no longer leases cars. Therefore, the only way you can lease a Chrysler is to go with an independent bank. That’s where Leasecompare.com comes in. I do have a bone to pick with them though. A few months ago, their quotes would display the residual value and money factor used on their payment estimates, not so much now. If you check out their quotes, you’ll notice that the residual values have been removed and they only provide the money factor, terms and monthly payments. Not a big deal since most of us know how to do a little Algebra to figure out what the residual value is. Here is what I found through Leasecompare.com:

Actually, the residual is more like 46.5%, but close enough. So what kind of monthly payments are we looking at here?
At MSRP, you are looking at around $573 a month + tax and fees. At invoice, you are looking at somewhere in the $507 + tax and fees. The .00286 money factor effectively comes out to be about 6.864% which is not exactly the best thing out there. What’s the verdict? Well I obviously wouldn’t lease a car that has such a poor residual value and high money factor. However, I think it may be possible to get enough discounts on the sale price to offset most of the interest and the poor residual value. After all, I don’t think these cars are exactly flying off the lots right now. Remember though, you don’t want to lease anything that goes beyond the car’s standard warranty.
