BMW Revises Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: In an unusual move. BMW revised some of their lease rates for February. I haven’t really gotten around to look through everything in detail, but at first glance, the 3-series seems to have gotten hit with a higher money factor. OUCH! This is rather unexpected since most lease rates change from month to month, not twice in a month. This does put a damper on the hopes that the next few months will bring better rates. Hopefully some of you were able to jump in on the lower rates.

Anyway, my laptop died tonight, so I will not be able to address any questions you may have until tomorrow night or Friday.

09 Mercedes Benz SLK-Class Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: Great money factors on the SLK right now. Residuals are slightly below “ideal”, but I’ve seen worse. There’s a “lease special” going on now for 36-month and 48-month leases. This involves $4,000 Lease Finance Cash and dealer contributions of $1,568.32 and $1,721.82, respectively. Edmund’s TMV way off on this one, so ignore it. I think you can potentially lease a well-equipped SLK300 for under $500 (after taxes) for 48 months with around $1500-$2000 due at signing if you factor in all the discounts.

09 BMW 6-Series Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: Just because this car is not on the DO NOT LEASE list, doesn’t make it a cheap ride. We’re looking at an $80k+ price tag, so if you are shopping around for one of these four-digit monthly payments shouldn’t come to you as a surprise. Anyway, the residual values are pretty good for the most part and the money factors could be better, but they certainly aren’t ridiculous.

The residual values are high enough to keep every trim in this model lineup away from this list. Just stay away from the 48-month leases. They pretty bad.

09 Mercedes Benz CLK-Class Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: The CLK350 Coupe looks best on a 48-month lease. It still pricey since the residuals are so low, but the money factor is great. The convertible is better as a 36-month lease. I would avoid the CLK550s.
Can’t say I recommend them as lease, I would probably buy it since these cars lose more than 50% of their value within 3 years.

09 VW Jetta Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: Hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day! I’ve been out all day shopping for a cellphone for the missus so it’s been a busy day. I also spend a good chunk of time browsing at Circuit City for heavily discounted crap since they are going out of business. I’m disappointed to report that some of their stuff is still fairly expensive. Now their CDs, DVDs, Video Games & Accessories are like 40% off so don’t miss that! Anyway, back to leasing news!!! Solid residual and decent money factor makes the Jetta Wolfsburg a good choice for a compact sedan (This thing has the same 2.0T engine found on the Audi A4, VW CC, TT, A3 and VW GTI to name a few). Sale prices should be around invoice plus there’s $500 customer cash available. Remember not to exceed past the 36-month lease since VW warranties only last up to 3 years.

Important February Announcements!

Hello dear readers!! Happy Friday the 13th!

I wanted to take the time to sound off on some of the things that have been going through my mind these past few weeks. Here is what’s going on:

The Auto Leasing World

As you have probably noticed, auto leasing has improved since January. Great news for us folks who not only enjoy leasing, but have embraced it as our way of life. I am anticipating better leasing numbers next month, although I am not a fortune teller and cannot truly predict what the captive banks plan on doing to sweeten lease deals. I can (based on past trends and the state of our economy) make an educated guess. All signs point to lower sales volumes and less profit for the manufacturers, so the only logical way to ramp up sales is to introduce more attractive leases and financing options. Many of the captive bank lease rates are schedule to change come March 3rd, so if February sales don’t improve, I see better numbers ahead for us lessees.

Leasing vs Buying

Right now buying is almost as good as leasing, in some cases, MUCH better. Be sure to consider buying an 08 model and take advantage of their 0.9% financing options. The Infiniti EX35 comes to mind. Leasing is also pretty decent on that ride right now, so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.  Anyway, I just want to remind you to also consider a purchase in order to take advantage of special financing that some banks are offering.

Help Me, Help You

I wont lie to you, this site went from a hobby to part-time job (I spend an average of about 20 hours week between scouring the web for lease rates, finding useful lease information, analyzing number/writing blog entries, answering emails/posts and developing features for the site). Due to the fact that I have a full-time job already, I am thinking of cutting back some of the hours devoted to this blog.

Here are ways you can help me out:

  1. Not emailing for specific lease rates. Since I just post what I find sending me emails with these types of requests won’t really help.
  2. Ask questions on the FORUM. Not only do you get me answering your questions, but BouncewithB can too (not to mention other forum members). I give priority to forum questions over email questions, so if you want your questions answered sooner, the forum is the quicker way.
  3. Share your research. If you find something during your lease research that you find important to share, please do so by posting it in the Forums! That would save me a ton of time.

This will ensure I have more time to focus on the following…

RIDE | Marketplace

I’m in the process of developing the RIDE | Marketplace, so I am looking for dealers to establish a relationship with my blog. The RIDE | Marketplace will basically be a place for dealers to post any specials they have going on at their dealerships. I am looking for dealers that are helpful, informative, upfront and honest. Honesty is key here. The goal is to provide good dealers with referral business and to save lessees some time and frustration. I am inviting 5 dealers across the US to join the marketplace during it’s trial phase (which will begin March 13th, 2009) during RIDE with G’s One Year Anniversary. If you are a dealer interested in participating or know a dealer you will like to recommend them to me, please contact me.

09 Audi A6 Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: Keep away from the 3.2 Prestige model and the Avants if you plan on leasing a A6. The residuals are bad and the money factors are bad. Overall, the residuals are quite poor on the A6, but the money factors are low, so they are worth a look if you ask me. Current Audi customers get the added bonus of $3000 loyalty cash between now and 3-3-09, so that should help bring things down a notch. Unfortunately for Audi, I think the 5-series is the better deal this month, even with a $3000 loyalty cash, the A6 3.0 Quattro Premium will cost you more than a 535i. The only difference between the two of course, is the AWD.

09 BMW 5-Series Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: Me likey BMW 5-series leases this month. Me also likey special financing of 2.9% for up to 60 months. Me likey the lookey of 5-series. Haahaa. The 535i has a “special lease” program this month for $599 a month for 36 month/10k miles a year, $5424 due at signing ($54,125 MSRP, Auto + Premium). What kind of special is that? Drop $5425 up front? No thanks, I’d rather cut my own deal. Here’s what I’d push for:

Term: 36-month
Miles: 12k miles a year
MSRP: 54,125
Sale: 49,835 (invoice)
MF: .00145
Residual:60%
Monthly: $588 + tax
Due: Inception fees (1st month, dmv, tire, doc fee, acquisition, MAYBE security deposit) of around $2000 or less.

Same car, more miles, less up front, less per month.
