09 VW Jetta Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_vwMy Take: I highly doubt that most of you actually care about the Jetta leases, but I figure I’d post it anyway since it’s there. Think of this post as a “lessee-beware”. I think the gas-powered version should have better lease rates this month.

09 Mercedes Benz SLK300 – May 2009

logo_benzMy Take: Check out the 0.00007 money factor on the SLK300. Not bad huh? Residual is kinda low, but the money factor more than makes up for it at 0.168% APR. How crazy is THAT, its practically free to borrow the money to lease this car! MB has been seriously aggressive at trying to move units recently, from the CLK, ML to the C, they all seem to be going below invoice in most metro areas with decent competition. Be sure to check out your local MB dealerships to see what they can do for you. For all you Southern California people, I am working on getting a Mercedes Benz dealer into the Dealerplace this weekend. I will more than likely pay him a visit this weekend (if he’s around) and talk cars with him. Stay tuned…

09 Audi A4 Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_audiMy Take: Good leases coming out of Audi Financing Services this month. Just look at the money factors! NICE! With the exception of the S4, everything else looks pretty darn good. Residuals are a bit weaker than I’d like, but that also means they are a bit more realistic. The convertible’s MF really make it a great Lease-To-Buy candidate (sorry, but you will be hearing that Lease-To-Buy thing quite a bit from now on!). As far as the which model has the best residual/money factor balance on the A4 lineup, I would have to go with the A4 2.0T Cabriolet Quattro. Not sure I would buy it out at lease end, because I am skeptical of the ragtops ability to withstand time, but it certainly makes a solid lease if you factor in AudiCare and lower your mileage allowance to 12k per year.

09 Audi A8 Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_audiMy Take: A8 is really a bad lease right now. Residual is insanely low plus the money factor isn’t low enough to recommend a lease-to-buy. MAYBE on the A8 Quattro, but definitely not on any of the other trims.

09 Honda S2000 Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_hondaMy Take: I almost forgot that Honda still had this car around. Not to say that it’s a bad car, it’s just that it’s not something you see very often on the roads these days. Plus I think it’s due for a major redesign, so these low residuals and high money factors really discourage me from saying anything positive about this car’s lease program. Buy it if you must, but do not lease them.

09 Infiniti EX, FX Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_infinitiMy Take: I am not going to deal with the EX35 payments for now since I have only seen the rates for the BASE model, which are probably sold by now. Instead, I will focus on the FX35 AWD on this post. The effective interest rate for the FX35 AWD for 36-months sits at around 1.752% while the 48-month rate is at 2.016%. The BEST interest rate for a purchase loan being offered by IFS right now is 0.9% for up to 36-month and 2.9% from then on (up to 72 months). Seeing how residuals are somewhat low, I would flag this car as a Lease-To-Buy candidate. Not as good as the Mercedes have been these past few months, but close enough. There is about $4000 dealer cash available, but they won’t even let you use it on the special financing, so I would not be surprised to if they refuse to use it on leases. Before you ask if you used it for leases, I have one thing to say about that…”doesn’t matter”. It doesn’t matter because if they need to make a sale they will, so no point arguing about the rebates themselves. Just focus on determining your lowest and highest sale price (factoring in the rebat if you like) before you talk to your dealer. They won’t sell you the vehicle if they really can’t use the rebates anyway, so no point worrying about it.

09 Infiniti G37 Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_infinitiMy Take: Here’s the scoop on the G37 sedans right now. The 48-month lease should get you the lowest payment, but I would probably opt for the 36-month anyway because of the additional costs of tires, assuming you don’t get the Sports model that has those sticky performance tires. With performance tires, you will probably need to replace them before the 36th month, so if you plan to go Sport, you probably want to go with the 48-month. That way you don’t pay for new tires and then have to return the car. Tires ARE expensive, specially if they are 18+ inches and are low profile. If you need tires on your car right now, you may want to order them from an online retailer (such as Tire Rack) and have them shipped to Walmart (or any other place) to have them mounted. Be sure to check the prices for mounting the tires and to arrange delivery with the location of your choice. Going back to the G37, the 36 and the 48 month lease are pretty good right now. Not great, but good. Money factors are low, residual are lower than the 08’s at around the same time last year, but they are more realistic. This means you can probably sell the car at any time during your lease and either break even or make a little money from it (assuming you kept the miles low and the car in great shape). Last years residuals were bad, my car is probably worth about $2k-$3k less than the payoff price right now, and I only have about 9000 miles after exactly 1 year. Anyway, if you don’t mind going bare-bones, the G37 Base model should give you a sub $400 monthly payment (before taxes). I have a base and its still a very solid car, so I can’t complain.

FQ4 – Recession? What happened to those cheap luxury leases?

For our Featured Question No. 4, I’ve decided to dig into the Forums and pick out Supercharged’s question: Recession? What happened to those cheap luxury leases? I remember the days when I would see leases for the Jaguar X-Type, Porsche Boxter going for like 399 per month (with a reasonable amount due at signing). Those days are indeed gone, now the payments are more in the 499-599 range and require nearly $5k+ at drive-off. So what DID happen for things to turn out this way?
