Ewww!!! VW numbers not as good this month. Financing options look quite attractive though, but I’m thinking most of you didn’t came here for that.

  1. G,
What do you think of lease terms for the CC R-line and Golf R? I currently lease a 2010 CC R-line but my lease is ending in early July. When I leased my current car, the residual was also low (49% for 3 yr/12K miles), but was able to get a discount of about $5,900 off MSRP to make it a good lease deal. Looks like the residual will be 49% again for 12K per year, so to get a comparable deal I need a major discount. I think VW offers $2,500 lease cash right now on the CC, but the spread between invoice and MSRP is less than 2 grand, so I doubt I can get to 6 grand. The Golf R is a car I really like but with the new Mk VII body style coming, I am leery of purchasing one. A lease would make more sense but I think the MF is pretty high on the R. Would like your take on both cars as far as a lease goes. BTW, the reason I am looking at these two is that I only want manual transmission cars. Perhaps I should also consider a Jetta GLI, but that is a major step down from a CC.

  2. Ali, I do see some difficult getting a significant discount on the CC. I think you’d end up paying more even if you got the same discount you did on the 2010. The Golf R will end up being a very expensive option so I wouldn’t consider it. The GLI isn’t half bad (a neighbor of mine has one), but in terms of the “premium” feel, it definitely is a step down.

Truth is, I’m not liking the VWs this month and I don’t feel too positive about them being that much better next month. Typically, lease rates remain relatively the same for about two months. There have been exceptions, but not often. The next big change will probably be around July, when you car is due.

Thanks for your input. The MSRP of my 2010 was $29,908 and the same 6MT CC R-line now stickers for about $33,300. So the sticker price has gone up by some 11%. A good portion of that is due to extra standard equipment (xenon headlights, LED daytime lights, navigation system, 5-passenger seating, automatic climate control, etc.). So I fully expect to have to pay more than what I’m paying now. I’m just not willing to pay 20% more for essentially the same car. I like the xenons but could care less about the tiny screen navigation unit.

The Golf R is something I guess I will put off until the next generation Mk VII Golf/GTI come out.

      • I hope you manage to get a good deal on the CC if you go with it. I’m just not feeling VWs this month. Maybe July will be better?
