BMW dropped the residual for some of their cars again this month. There has been adjustments to the MF though, so they should look fairly similar to last month in terms of payments.
Here’s the bad news though. If you are shopping for a 2012 3-series, you will not get much of a discount right now. On average, TrueCar indicates a measly $469 bucks off MSRP (the average discount last month was a bit more generous) in my neck of the woods. Pretty lame. I have bigger hopes for the Summer and Fall personally. If you aren’t a hurry, hold off for now.
Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.
2012 BMW 328i Sedan

2012 3 series numbers look the same as last month.
Rates for everything else don’t look anything like they did last year at this time.
Last May lease rates were awesome for some models, especially the 1 series coupe and convertibles. 10K year, 36 months had a 59% residual and .0010 MF.
I’m waiting to order my 335i as 2013 orders are being put in next month/June.
Also the 3 Msport orders start July, but no definitive on pricing for that option.
Any idea on what the lease rates will be for a 2013 328i/335i in sport line?
Dealer says I have 90 days from the placement of my order to hold the lease rate at the time of delivery and I can take new lease rates at time of delivery if they are better. Problem is that 2013 order goes in June 1st, but car may not get here till September and that could be over 90 days. Any ideas on that?
A 2012 order may be the right way to go as the lease rates are great now, it will delivery much sooner, and I won’t have to pay any MSRP increases from BMW, considering how well they are selling.
BTW, have you heard of any incentives for current BMW owners/leassors?
There is/was a $1000 credit for drivers who signed up to a test drive and did a survey. But I’m reading that now BMW is only accepting that credit on lot cars, not orders. True?
1) No idea what the rates will be next month on 2013. We are still a few months away from their release date.
2) I am of the opinion that the 2012 3-series lease rates are not very good. The residual is great, but the MF is so-so and the sale price is high. That makes for an expensive lease in my opinion.
3) You certainly can lock in the lease rates when you special order. If you they improve, you can then take the better one upon delivery. That’s very common practice for BMWs.
4) I’m not aware of the $1000 credit so I cannot confirm that unfortunately.
Does anyone know what rebates are being used this month instead of the $1500 BMWNA rebate??
Are they still providing any numbers for leftover 2011 335Ds?
as long as there are leftovers, they will have the numbers. However, they may have stopped providing lease support on them. The eco credit should still apply tho. Sorry I don’t have much info since we’re almost half way through 2012, I don’t get 2011 numbers anymore.
Thanks for putting up all this information.
Q about the 1 series convertible: Didn’t the residual drop from 62% to 60% in May? (and the $500 option allowance partially offsets that hit)
Which one? 128 or 135? I am showing no change on the 128i and 1% reduction on the 135i.
Sorry, I was talking about the 128i conv. I assumed the RV dropped after I looked at the lease offers at bmwusa.com (http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/Vehicles/2012/1/128iConvertible/OfferDetail.aspx?NAModelCode=121D&OfferType=2®iontypeid=2)
MSRP: $41,495
RV: $26,142
So 63% for a 36M 10k/yr lease.
Maybe that was the wrong way to look at it. I’m fine with the RV staying at 62% for 36M 15k/yr. 🙂
Thanks for looking into this again!
I wouldn’t worry about the ads personally. Those things sometimes don’t get updated properly. I would stick with the percentages unless the dealer tells you otherwise. When I look at ads, I never take them seriously because you typically can get much lower payments and lower drive-offs by negotiating deals yourself.
Thanks G, really appreciate it!
@G
My dealer told me the pull ahead program is in effect for my 2010 528XI. after looking @ many combos we like these options on a 2012 X5 D.
Sport, cold and tv. White with cinnamon looks sharp to us as well…
Hi Jake,
It was nice talking to you few minutes ago here is the information you requested, Lease 36months/10,000 miles a year.
MSRP $62545.00
Sale price $54395.00
Money factor .000146 (with 7 multiple deposits with approved credit through BMW Financial Services)
Due at signing $1870.00 ( plus $100.00 to cover multiple deposits, you have $4800.00 coming back and $4900.00 required for the next)
Monthly payment $676.00 (includes mass sales tax)
The email I got from my local BMW store.
Note: this would be an order
@G
I found out that a $1500 credit is in effect for returning customers for leases ending (may 1st/oct 1st) and the $3500 diesel credit is still good, sounds like $7k plus can be taken off with some dealer help.
Lastly I forgot the running boards option ($300) from my last post.
I’d like the $4800 to go to this as msds and roll in the $1800 up fronts in the payments to get a sign and drive $700 month 36/10k lease
The details, lease ends 8/29, @ $592 for my 5 series after I put my order in flash forward 5 weeks I’ll have 3 payments to go, BMW financial will do 2 and the BMW store will eat the other payment
What’s your thoughts?
Jake. The deal look very good. Specially since this is an ordered vehicle and you are getting exactly what you want. I’m getting 90 rating on my calculator (using the numbers provided in the previous post), which pretty much confirms my hunch. I like it! Looks like you won’t be losing much sleep over this lease!
Jake, and G,
You wrote that BMWNA has a $1500 credit for leases ending from 5/1 to 10/1 of 2012.
Is that for any new 2012 or 2013 BMW, in particular, does this include the 328i and 335i?
G, I agree that the MF is rather high as it’s 4.56%. I plan to do MSD’s.
Also, it’s likely that I will get a price of $500 over actual MACO invoice, which I don’t think is bad at all considering some sales prices that are rather high.
Even without a $1500 credit, my monthly should be about $565 on an MSRP of close to $49K.
Would that be a good lease deal in your view?
If I can also get $1500 off of that deal, this lease would be supper sweet.
I’m in the Chicago market, and selling prices on new 3’s is hit and miss, but for me it looks good, maybe because I’m a returning customer with the same dealer and I told them I want the same $500 over invoice as I got on my 2009 135i.
Thanks for all your help.
And thanks Jake for your info as well. 🙂
$565 on a $49k MSRP doesn’t look too bad. How much money upfront are you paying? $500 over invoice is a fair price to pay for the 3-series. That’s has usually been the sale price before any discounts and rebates. I’m just more worried about the interest being charged quite honestly. I think it’s on the high side, but since you are doing MSDs, that will improve the deal.
After reading your 2nd coment. I think you should go for it. Typically IL leases are taxed at 100% of the car’s value (from what I’ve heard), but since you are in IN, the tax situation you are in will save you a ton of cash. Awesome!
Forgot to add, the monthly of $565 is for a lease without MSD’s, and uses $500 over MACO invoice.
With MDS’s, monthly will be less.
In my state of Indiana, close to Chicago, we only pay sales tax on the monthly payment.
With MSD’s, monthly should be $524.
I pay doc, dmv, 1st month, security up front and don’t roll it into the lease.
I like to keep it clean, so it’s just purchase price, 10K residual, MF, and 7% monthly sales tax.
@G
Okay, so after shoping around heres the deal that I put an order in for.
white
cinnamon leather
sport pkg
20 inch wheels
cold weather
running boards
MSRP $61.795 selling price, im not sure my brain got fried…
36/10k 59% residual with a padded 00.195 money factor
dealer doc fee ($295) and im not sure the other fees, but i’ll get them on a sheet later.
-$3500 eco credit and – $1500 (returning) customer cash
dealer agrees to pay 1 payment and (bmw) with the pull ahead program would pay the other 2 payments of $592
i would get back my $4800 msd’s from this lease to make a true $697m $1k drive off or I can re-do the msd’s program on the new lease @ 7x $650 deposits for a $4450 and $1k drive off $649 monthly payment… all with Massachusetts sales tax (6.75%) taxed on just the payment
nearly $50 bucks a month to save if i use the MSD’S ($1800) 3 year savings but to have the same problem i had with my 5 series not being able to get rid of my lease causes me to hold off on that, in short im torn, dealer said i have till next month to pick A or B my inflated rate is locked.
notes: my credit sucks, low 600s, im happy i just got a slight bump in the MF.
i hope this helps some.
@g do you have rates for 640i coupe? shooping around in so cal for one as we speakone im looking at is around 80k 0 down only starup fees 15k miles a year $800 a month u think thats dangerous to ask for? lol
sorry Lou, what you see is what I have. I post everything I receive every month.
Is there a way to calculate 24 and 48 month lease rates using these numbers as well or is that a completely different set of numbers?
The numbers will be different. You may have to speak to your dealer or find another source since this is what I have available.
@all/G
My dealer called this morning, long story short my ordered X5 will be here the 29th just 2 weeks from the order date (fast) the deal was they pay one BMW pays the other two with the pull ahead program I pay my may 29th lease. but since the truck is here 2 weeks early they are telling me don’t pay my may 29th payment they will cover it if I take it (this month)…
My hope was maybe (june) BMW would have better deals that I would get, example diesel credit last month was $2500 but now $3500 no incentive for customers to stay with BMW now $1500, the question is do to think BMW financial would increase the incentives next month like they did may from April?
What I think is my dealer needs to close a few more deals to get a BIG bonus from BMW and willing to pay another payment to get that chunk (units sold in may)
Notes: next month for better or worse I get atleast this months deal locked.
I guess this was long story LONG…
Ohhh right, the X5 is made in the east coast, that’s probably why it doesn’t take long to get it after ordering it. I personally don’t think the numbers will change. Typically lease rates change every OTHER month. Incentives can follow that pattern too, those are bit more difficult to predict. There is always a risk when leasing or buying something, so here’s my advice. If you are happy with the deal, just take it and don’t look back.
I went to one of the BMW dealers to test drive a 2012 328i sport again.
Man this is a nice ride.
Anyway, the sales guy tells me there is a $1500 customer loyalty cash for purchases and leases, and he tells me that it ends at the end of May, so, next week.
Can you please confirm if there is a $1500 loyalty case incentive for current BWM customers? If this is true, then I’ll put my order in in a couple of days.
My offer was edmunds invoice + Maco + $500 and that was excepted.
If I can then get another $1500 off that price, then it will be a very sweet lease deal.
I rant the numbers and it’s a very nice savings over 3yrs/36 payments.
Thanks again for all your excellent info.
Edmunds isn’t showing any loyalty cash, but if your dealer dealer is offering it, I wouldn’t turn it down. Have the dealer work out the numbers before you make your final decision.
@G,
I’ll wait, since I need to do some simple fixes detail etc. To hide the scratches and mini golf ball dents, I rather fix it now then pay BMW @ the drop off.
Next month: after the windows get tinted I’ll send the pics and the deal in detail, THANKS again G, my wife and I want to do the same what we did on the 2010 Toyota with you, please send me ur info
Hey Jake! good call on the waiting. Sorry I didn’t get back to you and the rest of the readers sooner…Last week was rough…anyway I will email you my info later this week and thanks so much!! It is very kind of you and the mrs!!!! Please thank her for me.
Dear G,
I was negotiating an 2012 X5 35d today. Studied this site as much as I could going in, but was still faced with some surprises. Can you comment on this deal?
MSRP: $65545
Agreed on: $56545 (9k off)
from here I was planning the following:
36months 10kmi/yr at 59% residual
7x MSD to bring MF from 0.0019 to 0.00141 (was told not from 0.00185)
with CA sales tax 8.75% I was expecting
7 x 700=4900 MSD
~1400 inception (acquisition, ttl, reg)
680.77 first month payment
============================
6980.77 Due at signing 680.77 monthly
Instead they set capitalized cost to 56545+925 (acquisition)=57470, resulting:
Monthly: $711
Due at signing: $6950
is their calculation correct?
Looks about right to me. You are paying $200 more for the bank acquisition though. BMWUSA charges $725, not $925. Dealer is padding it.
The acquisition fee should be $725 not $925.
BMW dealers can increase it, but you shouldn’t have to pay it as the fee has been padded. Tell them you’ll pay the $725 acquisition fee up front.
I pay these fee’s up front as I don’t like paying interest on fee’s.
If you pay the correct fee up front, then your monthly stays where you want it, and you won’t pay interest on a $200 padded fee.
Thanks, TT.
That’s what I thought. Initially they tried to put the bloated acquisition fee in 2 places, cap cost and inception fee. I walked away from that deal and got a better deal on exact same car else where.
G.
You are correct on the loyalty cash.
I check with my near-by BMW dealer and he confirmed that that “loyalty” money was not for the F30 3 series.
BTW, do you know the MACO on a 2013 335i Msport in the Northwest Indiana market? We are about 40 miles south of the Chicago area, so we may be paying Chicago MACO.
It looks to be around $460, but I want to make sure.
I built a 2013 335i Msport with an MSRP of $51,020.
I’m willing to go $500 over invoice, but without knowing the exact MACO invoice it makes it harder to get concrete numbers.
I have room to go up or down. It’s just that I like to know the numbers I’m getting into, as firmly as possible.
If you can help, then THANK YOU VERY MUCH. 🙂
Went in to lease fairly well equipped 528i 2012 sticker $58200. $1,000 conquest and $1,500 BMW rebate available. Sales manager was only willing to take an additional $2900 off. He wanted $2500 inception(need new tags) 36 month 12,000/yr $728 tax in. I walked away. Tier 1 credit. I should have been able to get it for at least $670 tax in. What do you think? Thanks
I think Factory Invoice + the two rebates is fair. That would put you at slightly below $52k as the sale price. Worse case, you go $500 over invoice plus incentives. Even then, that should be a better deal than what you are being offered.
@all
2012 x5 diesels have now got a $4500 eco credit June 1st.
My locked in May deal was $3500 credit but since I waited to see if rates change in June before I picked it up I now get the better deal.
Only $30 less a month but money is money and I feel great that I waited, it would’ve felt terrible if I picked up the truck on the 30th (original plan) only to find out 2 days later I could have had the Better credit.
Good call Jake! Hopefully the June numbers didn’t change. I personally don’t think they will, but we will find out soon enough!
G.
Any news on the June numbers?
