2011-12 Mercedes-Benz Lease Rates - August 2011

Few highlights for the month of August…MB lease rates are not too different from last month. A few drops in residuals, but money factors remain steady. 33-month leases, which are not listed on the site which I do not have, carry a significantly higher residual value compared to the 36-month terms. In my opinion, MBs lease best at 48-months, so typically do not recommend anything shorter than that. However, from time to time, there will be some exceptions.

For those seeking a C300, it looks like MB has dropped the sale price of these cars significantly. SoCal market is showing 11% off MSRP on the C300 Sport. New C-Class models are set to be introduced for MY 2012 so this could be a move to clear some inventory.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

Hi G, Please advise on the following deals:

1-2011 ML350 4matic, 33 month, 15K. They are giving me $29500 for my 2009 Lexus RX 350. My pay off is $23000 so it has $6500 Equity. Here are details:

MSRP: $56425

Cash salesprice: $51776

aquisition fee: $1095
Vehicle total: $52871

Cap Reduction: $8727
Mnfg Rebate: $4000

Total cap reduction: $8727
Customer Cash( my trade in): $6500
Drive off: $10500 (This includes $4000 rebate for conquest cash)

Adjusted Cap Cost: $44143.81

MF: 0.00067
Residual: 54%
State DMV fee: $446
State Tire fee: $8.75

Monthly Base: $464.36
Total Monthly payment: $504.99 This includes $15 for prepaid maintanance.

Total out of pocket at lease signing: 0
$1773 tax and resgistration and first payment rolled into cap cost.

I requested a quote in late august from them and at that time residual value was 3% higher. Now they are giving me the same selling price with 3% lower residual and the difference is $1800 comparing to what they were giving me 3 days ago.

My brother also got an ML350 4Matic 33 months, 12K

33 Month, 12K Lease:
MSRP: $56250
Invoice: $52874
Sell: $48874
mf: 0.00053
Res: 58%

Total monthly payment including 5% state tax is $600 + $8 for prepaid maintainance.
Due at signing: only first month payment.
He didn’t have a luxury car, but I assume dealer gave him $4000 off invoice.

FWIW, I have been looking at a 33 month lease, 15k miles per year, on a 2011 E350 Sport Sedan, and the dealer states the residual is 63% with a .00240 MF. Also, the MF drops to .00230 if you sign up for monthly auto pay.

  @JF. Yickes, even with the monthly auto pay, I wouldn’t touch the E350. The MF is just TOO HIGH to be worth leasing.

Hi G, what price should I request from dealer for a 2011 ml350 4matic? I don,t qualify for conquest cash. So far,I got invoice-1500.

  @marz. In my area, the typical sale price is approximately 9-10% off MSRP according to TrueCar.com. This is pretty close to $2000 below invoice. This is actually around dealer cost, which means the dealer would only be making whatever is left of the holdback. Keep in mind that this is an estimate. Some dealers have higher dealer costs than others.

Just a heads up…a dealer I’m working with told me today on the 33 month lease for the E350 that the money factor improved to .00192, while the residual went from 63% to 62%.

  Your acquisition fee is padded. I believe MBZ only charges $795.
  I think you are putting too much money towards the car. I would recommend doing MSDs instead of straight up cap reduction. Or maybe a combination of both. Keep in mind that the equity in your RX is not really free money. Those are unused miles you paid for.
  
  Also, I think the discount is lacking. 4K off MSRP is not even 10% off. For a last-of-it’s-generation model, I think you could do better. I think 10-11% off MSRP should be attainable since the 2012 is redesigned and it’s just around the corner.
  
  Overall, the deal is weak. It’s banking on your trading to make it a good deal, which is a flawed approach. You keep your trade-in separate. You make sure the deal is great as is and then decide to either pocket your equity on the RX or put it towards the ML. But you don’t combine the two during negotiations.

Thanks for your response. Almost every dealer in CA, use $1095 for acquisition. I tried several times before and they don’t listen.
I think if you include $4000 conquest cash , Final selling price would be $8649 off MSRP. almost 15%.(correct me if I am wrong)
They told me they can’t apply this rebate to selling price and they need to put it as CCR.

I did exactly what you mentioned. First I got an stand alone quote for the Ml from them:

MSRP: $56425
Total Cap Cost: $51776
Acquisition fee: $1095
Conquest rebate: ($4000)

Adj Cap Cost: $48871
Residual 54%
MF: 0.00067

Base payment : $610

I put all the numbers in your lease calculator and got +92 rating. Then I mentioned the RX. Is there another way to put the RX towards ML without putting the equity towards CCR? With RX return due in one month, what do you recommend to do with it? buy it from lexus ,pay the taxes and then resell it myself or get the trade in value for it and put it towards ML?

  @marz. Cap cost reduction is applied after the sale price is determined, so no way around that. Personally, I’d pocked the RX money or use it towards MSDs. I think the 610 payment is reasonable. The catch with MSDs is that if you sell the car, the bank keeps your money. So take part of the RX money to pay the drive-off. Then put towards MSDs for MF reduction OR pocket the cash. That’s my recommendation.
