2011-12 BMW Lease Rates – August 2011

Hey all! Lease rates remain the same as July. The posted residual values are all CORRECT for this month. The Money Factors are incorrect for most models so please leave me a comment if you need confirmation. If you need residuals on any other term, please let me know.

A coworker of mine approached me last week looking to lease a 328i and got a quote for a loaded $45k coupe for $1000 drive-off, $588 a month (with LA tax). If this sounds kind of high to you, it’s because it is. BMW is charging a whopping 4.56% interest (.00019) on a 328i coupe right now. A similarly equipped G37 Journey would probably be $100 a month less. Just some food for thought.

I will be following a “open forum” format (like last month) for the entire month of August, but I hope to return to the old method next month. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  1. Hi! Thanks for the great information. I am looking to lease 2011 or 2012 328i coupe. I do not know too much about leasing so I want to ask. Would the lease be higher for the new 2012 model? Does the lease offer tend to be higher when the new car first comes out? Thank you!

  2. You said some of the MF were incorrect. Do you know what they are for the 2011 M3 sedan and vert? 36 month. If the vert numbers are correct it’s a steal.

  3. @rob. M3 coupe is .00175, sedan is .00195 and vert is .00090. The convertible does look very promising right now come to think of it. Hope it’s not a typo. Here’s a sample payment:

    MSRP – 89925
    Sale – 84450
    Monthly – $1029
    RWG rating – 88.4

Not bad. Just gotta pay your inception fees which should total over $3000. Returning BMW lessee’s should be able to get a pretty good lease off this with the loyalty discount and if you the Drive for Team USA, that’s another $1k you can shave off. If you have extra cash for MSDs, that might make even more sense.

  4. @jcooper. The current 2011 lease on the coupe isn’t very good so I don’t expect the 2012 model to be worse. Brand new models tend to lease for more because dealer don’t usually discount the newer models much. Things could change in the coming holiday season, so I would recommend waiting it out if you have the time.

  5. What is money factor in California for 328i coupe? Also, what is reduction in MF for previous BMW Finance customer?

  6. @G
Thanks for the info. I just noticed the residual. Not such a hot deal. The Z4 looks awesome tho. Sigh, but I have my heart set on the M3 sedan. What is the loyalty MF discount? No sedan in MY2012, right?

  7. Hi – looking to lease the 2012 X5 35i Premium. Is the money factor .00175? Thanks for the great information- this has really de-mystified leasing for me.

    • Hi SAA. Glad the site has helped. The current MF for the model your are looking for is .00195. Residual is 54% for 36mo/15k term.

  8. Awesome Site! Would you happen to have the MF for 2011 328xi Sedan 36mo/12k lease in NH – Thanks!

  9. Hi G, I’m about to lease the M3 convertible. You say above, “if you the Drive for Team USA, that’s another $1k you can shave off.” I thought this program was just about BMW donating to Team USA for each test drive. How do you get this discount?
    Thanks

    • @herman. The Drive for Team USA is an event you need to register in. If you did the test drive, you will qualify for a $1000 discount when negotiation for a new BMW. You get it simply for participating in this event. Just bring any registration info you have of the event and mention it to your dealer when negotiating.

  10. Hi G,
What do you think of the following deal for a 2011 535xDrive.
    36 month
    12K per year
    MSRP $71400
Total out of pocket at signing $1500
    Monthly payment $1060
Thanks so much for your help and the great site!

    • @bellevue. Seems kind of high. How much of a discount are you getting on the car? Also, does your payment include local taxes? Where are you located? Depending on your state, your taxes are handled differently, so my assessment will be different. Here’s a sample calculation based on my assumption of what your deal could be…

      MSRP 71400
Sale 66350 (about 7% off MSRP)
      Term 36mo/15k
      Res 56%
      MF .00195
Monthly $940 per month + tax. Money due at signing will probably be more in the $2500 range. Since you are doing $1500 at signing ($1000 is being rolled into your lease), your payments will probably increase by another $30, or $970 + tax.

This lease is actually not very good. The residual value is average and your money factor is quite high, about 4.7%. If you are looking for a “deal”, this one isn’t a very good one.

  11. Hi G,
Thanks for your response and help. Just moved to the Seattle area.

The $1060 monthly does include tax. Sorry about forgetting the purchase price which is $67600. Dealer said he was basing on 56% residual and MF 0.00175.

New to all of this…is the residual and MF correct? For negotiating, don’t know what a reasonable “deal” would be. Your help and advice is greatly appreciated.

    • @bellevue. So what’s your tax rate? 9.5%? I’m seeing 6% discount in the Seattle WA area based on TrueCar.com estimates. You’re getting around 5%, you may have a few more hundred dollars worth of wiggle room.

Strange how you are getting the “incorrect” money factor. I use the word incorrect loosely since I was told that was regional, but no one seems to be getting quoted that, expect for you. Nevertheless, i’m wondering why you are getting a lower number than other people. Are you a returning BMW customer? If you are, you should be getting 0.0016 instead of 0.00175 (.00190 – 0.0003 loyalty discount).

Here’s an adjusted calculation of your lease:

      MSRP 71400
Sale 67600 (about 5% off MSRP)
      Term 36mo/15k
      Res 56%
      MF .00175
Monthly $955 per month + tax.

The deal is still not very good. It gets a 79 rating on my calculator. Usually I don’t recommend people leasing anything below a 85 rating and that’s pushing it. Ideally, a deal is 90 rating or higher.

There are a few things you can do to improve the offer. Multiple Security Deposits is one and if you have time (or the opportunity), you may want to participate in the Drive for Team USA (similar to the Ultimate Drive for Breast Cancer Research). Those who participate can qualify for a $1000 rebate.

    • @bellevue. No problem. Just to let you know though, this car may probably won’t lease very well in general because the lease rates aren’t every attractive. Ideally, you want to lease a car that has a high residual value and a low money factor. This car has an slightly above average residual, but the money factor is quite high.

  12. @G and @bellevue

0.00175 must be the super elite rate, instead of the 0.00190 promotional rate

Use those MSDs, if you can

  13. @G,
Thanks, worked some hypothetical numbers on your calculator so if I can’t get that ideal 90 (or even above 80 in this case) I will sit tight and look elsewhere if I can. Not sure about the MF as I am not a BMW owner…yet =)

    @Gene,
Thanks for your input and will try to work the MSD if I can

  14. Hello,

I am in the process of leasing a 535xi with prem 1 & 2 along with Cold Weather. I was quoted $725 for 10k miles 36 months top tier and then told that i am only approved for standard and the payment would be 755 through BMWFS.

This doesn’t sound right to me.. i was upset with the jump in price and then told if i got a cosigner it would go back to top tier?? I have been leasing with BMW for years and always just got approved any feedback on this..? Eitherway i am approved its just very odd the jump in price..

Any help or feedback would be appreciated…

What is the residual and money factor for a 2011 535xi so i can compare against what they are giving me..

    Thanks
    Mitch

  15. @mitch. 535ix is Res 56% MF .00195 for 36mo/15k. Add 3% to residual for 10k and 2% for 12k. Look over Bellevue’s comments when you get a chance. You are both trying to lease the same car.

Top Tier MF is .00175 apparently, I’m guessing you need like a 725 credit score or maybe more. I don’t have any info on Top Tier MF at the moment though. This isn’t unusual, specially after you got your credit run. If your credit is below 675 though, you might be getting the .00195 instead of the .00175.

By the way, did they disclose your credit score to you? They usually do when you start your paperwork.

  16. Hey G,
Looking for some comments/advice. In my area, two dealerships each have a demo 328xi coupe with about 7k miles on them. They don’t list the sticker on the website, but I would guess the MSRP would be 43k/44k. The internet price is roughly 39k.
Is there anything that would change, MF, residual, etc, when leasing either of these? Would the drive for USA incentive still apply?
One of them has a carfax report with the following:
    Accident reported
    Involving right rear impact
    It hit another motor vehicle
    Very minor damage reported
Any idea how to factor this in?
    Thanks in advance.
    nick

    • @Nick. the residual value is different for demos, so you will have to check with your lender/dealer for details. Not sure if the USA incentive will apply. I think its only for new cars.

Not sure about the damage to be honest. It may not have much baring on the deal though. I don’t think it would affect the residual much since its minor. But the fact that’s been in an accident, maybe you can try to get more of a discount from the dealer.

  17. So there is a “top tier” money factor for the 535i? I’ve been quoted .0019 (may be .00195). If .00175 exists, It would certainly change things for my deal. As it stands, I’ve got the following:

    2011 535i White/Beige – MSRP $58,125
Selling price $51,265 + 200 MACO (Using Drive USA + Nav Credit)
    $51,465
    Now for the fun…Dealer fee $689 + 129 Doc
If burying the $725 acquisition fee in the deal, it comes to $711 per month (6% tax) with approximately – $1000 out of pocket/due at signing – which is first month + title transfer/doc fee/battery/tire.
    Premium 1
    Sport pkg
    Nav
    Ipod/USB
    Satellite
    Shift Paddles –
Money factor (.00160 – using loyalty discount although not sure if it should be .00175 minus .0030?)
    Residual 58% (12k miles) 36 months
    $711 per month – 36 months.
    Thoughts?

    • @JS. It seems that the 0.00175 you are looking for can only be found in certain markets. The official promotional top tier credit right now is .0019 i believe. I do think the lease is “Okay” but not if you are looking for a “great deal” it really isn’t all that great. In this situation, I would recommend MSDs to lower your money factor some more.

  18. can you please give me info on a 2011 x5 xdr35d 10k a year 36mos lease. Im getting a reisdual of 56% and a MF of .00175 is this good and should I go with a 2012 x5 xdr35d instead. I hear the residual is much better.

    • @DC3. 2011 X5 35d MF is 0.00195. I am not seeing the numbers for the 2012 yet. The residual value should be better since it’s newer, but the MF may not be all that great since it’s a new model year.

  19. 3rd time using your site fir my leases! THANK YOU for your awesome dedication and for educating me in the “fine art” of leasing!!!

    Need a expert opinion —

Getting the following on an X3 2.8 (in NJ):
Jet Black, Auto, Leather, Heated seats and steering wheel, Nav – MSRP $41915
    36mos/12K mi — 58%, .00126 MF (with 7 security deposits)
    $516.60/mo, incl NJ sales tax
    Due at signing:
    $3850 (7 security deposits($550×7))
    $302.50 (MV)
    $6.00 (Tire Tax)
    $279.00 (doc fee)
    $725.00 (BMW Bank fee)
    $516.60 (first pmt)

They did not disclose the sale price. But it seems pretty close to invoice (?)

The only thing that i can pick at is the MF – as a returning lessee, isn’t the base MF .00168, making the 7 sec dep MF .00119?

    What do you think?
    Thanks!!

    • @Jake. Awesome! Glad the site has been such a big part of your life! Btw, make sure you get the sale price for your own piece of mind. Otherwise, you will be doing a lot of guessing.
The current MF on a X3 2.8 is .00195, residual is 56%, so at 12k, you were quoted the correct residual (58%).
Since your are a returning lessee, your MF should be 0.00165 due to the .00003 loyalty reduction.
Now, I’m not sure what your MSD reduction is per deposit, but it seems to me that your MF could have been padded up a bit.
Anyway, if you are looking for a “great” overall deal. This probably isn’t it. However, per X3 standards, this may not be half bad. You do need to iron out some of the details (like the MF and sale price) in order to get an overall feel for how good the deal is.

  20. Hey, Thanks for all your help.

So now there is another twist,

I am being told for my 535 lease that i am getting
    nav credit
    Team USA Credit
and 1,000 lease loyalty credit. I was under the impression it should be a reduced money factor can they do this?

also is it possible i can ask them to grab lease loyalty of 1000 and money factor reduction?

If i can choose is it better to go with the reduced money factor instread of the 1,000k since i am leasing?

Sorry for all the questions it just seems like there is to many holes in the quote..

    • @mitch. Per the info I have been given, it’s supposed to be a choice of MF reduction OR $1000. They can’t force you to take the cash. Many folks have taken the MF reduction so we know it’s available.

  21. In Sept 08, I leased a loaded left over 08 BMW with a $92000 sticker for $1000 a month w/12000 miles yr. It showed a purchase price of $73000 to get it to that $1000/ mo number. Residual is $47000. Expires next month. I’m looking at replacing my 08 BMW 750 li w/a 2012 750lxi. Looking at 12000 miles/yr and a sticker price of $100k. Assuming a $4000 discount to $96k, and the loyalty lease discount what would be considered a great 36mo lease? I also test drove during the $1000 challenge promo to get the $1000 cash but I’m not sure if it’s stackable with the standard $1000 rebate currently offered on the 2012 750’s. I’m not sure what the security deposit credits you purchase to lower the payment are either. Thanks!

    • @ed. The current MF is 0.00195 on the 750lxi. Residual is 55%. Depending on your location, you could looking at a possible 6-7% discount. So at $100k, I would be shooting for $93k. Here’s a test scenario based on your assumptions:

      MSRP $100,000
      Sale $93000 (7% discount)
      Res 57%
      MF 0.00195 (base) – 0.0003 (loyalty reduction) = .00165
      Drive USA – $1000 rebate
Monthly $1218 per month plus tax. Inception due at signing (Approx $3500).

This is not a “GREAT” deal because the MF seems to be a bit high still. I would recommend dropping some security deposits ($550 per). I don’t quite remember what the deduction is per deposit, but I’m going to guess it’s 0.00006. If you put 7 down, you will have a 0.00042 reduction in your MF, which drops your interest by about 1%. That would being your monthly payment down to $1155, but you will need to pay an extra $3850 at signing.

I didn’t see an extra $1000 cash on the 2012 750s. I do know that you have a choice between the loyalty MF reduction OR $1000 loyalty cash. In your case, I would opt for the reduction since the price tag of this vehicle is very high. Another issue with cash is that you have to pay taxes on it, so it doesn’t workout as well as the MF reduction.

  22. Hi, trying to work on a deal for a 2012 135i coupe. Getting quoted what I think is an outrageously high MF, 00235. Can you tell me what the base MF is for the Seattle area? Is it the .00120 listed? This is for a 36 month lease. Thanks!

    • @andrew. yup. the promo rate on the 2012 135i coupe is indeed 0.00120. It isn’t uncommon for BMW dealers to pad the MF to make money. I recommend shopping around for a more “honest” dealer.

  23. Thanks! Unfortunately this is the runaround I get from all the BMW dealers in this area it seems. I had this problem last time I leased as well. What do you think a fair MF is for them to give me?

    • @andrew. I recommend that you call a broker to see if he/she can get you the deal you want. Just remember, you need to have worked out the numbers BEFORE you call. I think that you should always pay the base rate if you have great credit. Anything higher, I wouldn’t lease the car. So I cannot, in good conscience tell what a “fair” MF is because anything higher than the base rate is not fair.

  24. Few questions for you….looking at an auto broker for a lease. what are your thoughts on those? BMW USA is about $200/mo higher for an M3 sedan for example, but am I to assume that includes my state taxes whereas the brokers’ prices do not include that? These lease brokers do mention state tax is not included. Base MSRP for an M3 sedan is 55,900, and the broker quotes $649/month with no money down (assuming no options). I would have to pay my Arizona vehicle taxes separate, a BMW financial fee of $725, and my first month payment up front. Does that price make sense? AZ taxes would be $1557 when I registered.

Another option I’m looking at is taking over the lease on a friend’s 2 year old 335i sedan for $500/month. I’d have to pay about $750 to do the transfer, and another $350 on lease turn in. The car with similar options today would sticker at about $52000. The lease payment on this car through BMW if I got it new would be $709/month. You think this is a good deal?

    • @matt. i think most quotes don’t include state taxes unless specified. I’m guessing that your broker is from out of state then? which is why you are handling your taxes/registration on your own?

As for taking over a lease. I probably wouldn’t do that unless you need the car only for the remaining year or so of their lease. Plus, how many miles doe your friend have left on their lease?

Personally, BMW leases this month (with the exception of the Z4) aren’t very good. They are rated very low in terms of value.

  25. Can you confirm the money factor for Aug 2011 for 550i Sedan (36 month/15Kmiles per year)? I was quoted .00210 today at the BMW dealer — they claim I’m in the top credit tier and this is the best they offer. Location = FL

  26. Anyone have the new September 2011 lease rates for 2011 M3 Coupe with Elite credit or regular published rates?

  27. Hey G,
Can you send me the rates for 91604 and 91362 area codes on both BMW X3s? I read in the previous month that some numbers may be off and to comment here to confirm. Not sure whether the same statement from last month applied to this month’s post so I thought I’d ask.

    I love the site!

    Best Regards,
    K

  28. I have an opportunity to lease a 2011 750li hybrid. Loaded at $121000. Lease for $1191 mo with $4400 down and based on a purchase price of $94500. They said lease rate is .00165 as I am a current BMW owner. They are including my $3000 incentive in the sale price. I actually prefer the 2012 750 xli with sport pkg (list price $104500) but the best rate I was offered on that is the same terms above but $1250 mo. With $4400 mo sale price of $94500 with all rebates applied. Am I getting a good deal. Taxes based on the fact I am turning in the 2008 750li sport off lease.
    Thanks, Ed

    • @ed. Whats the residual on the 2011? I think it looks quite good. You are getting a sizable discount on the sale price which I think makes a world of difference. In addition, the loyalty MF reduction is great. I would got for it.

  29. Hello, Could you please provide me with the MF for the following:

2011 BMW 750 Li Sedan xDrive
    2011 BMW X3 xDrive 3.5i
    2011 BMW 740 Li

Thank you in advance for your assistance. Be well – Zippy

  30. anyone hear about the $25000 dealer incentive (on top of the current 7500 + 2000 + 1000) for active hybrid 7 coming in october?

  31. They just lowered it again. They told me they would let me have it for $1149 mo. w/1st months rent plus taxes of $2500. the residual is 52% i think. Problem is I like the 2012 xli better. Any reason to shy away from the hybrid?
    Thanks,
    Ed-

    • @ed. To be honest, as a lease, I would try any car once, as long as the payments are reasonable. In the hybrid’s case, I think the payments are pretty good for a car at that price range. I don’t think 2012s are leasing well right now. It may be a few more months before we start seeing better numbers. I think the ’11 model is a good deal so I wouldn’t hesitate to take it. However, if you need AWD, then definitely take the 2012 if you can stomach the extra cost.
