My Take: Numbers are unchanged from last month, which were pretty much the same as the month before. I think there’s going to be a rate change for July/August so if you don’t like the quotes you are getting now, I would wait to see what July has to offer. There are a few models worth looking at due to the low money factor. These include: CLS550, ML450 Hybrid and to an extent, the SLK300 and SLK350.

Does a 36 mo lease for $375 w/$5000 down sound like a decent lease on a base C300? MSRP $36,600.
Here’s a recommended quick read: Demystifying the Marketing Ad
i generally frown upon putting so much cash down upfront. The typical drive-off for Cs is about $2000 at most. If you are paying $5000, that means you are putting $3000 of cap reduction. That’s not a good idea. I understand that everyone is on a budget and that they need to keep their payments low. However, throwing that kind of money at a lease it doesn’t make sense. In the event of a total-loss accident (or theft), you probably won’t recover much of that $3000 (if any). You insurance will usually just payoff what you owe and you move on to the next ride. That means you are out $5000 PLUS you would have to come up with more money for your next car. Ideally, you want to go ZERO down if you can stomach the payments. If not, just pay the inception fees (1st payment + registration + fees).
Based on the info you have given me, you are missing something very critical. The sale price. If you read the like I just provided, you will notice that negotiating the sale price is very important because your payments are based off the difference between how much the car is being sold for and how much it’s residual value will be after 3 years. The higher the sale price, the higher your monthly payments.
I recommend the following:
1) Shoot for a low sale price. If you are looking at a $36600 msrp, try shaving about $3000 off the msrp.
2) double-check your fees. If you are paying $1095 for your bank fee, try talking them down to $795, which is the standard bank fee for MBZ.
3) If paying inception fees only still makes your lease too expensive, I would probably recommend looking at something else in the same class. This is of course, my personally opinion.
… With 15k miles allotted per year.
G:
I think M-B and other luxury leases come with built-in gap insurance. Is losing your entire cap cost reduction amount a myth in the event of a total loss?
GAP coverage doesn’t refund your cap cost reduction. GAP simply waives your responsibility should you owe the bank after your insurance pays them for the market value of the car. The market value is generally much less than the residual value, so you would lose a big chunk of that down payment, if not all of it.
July 2009, Mercedes offered a $10,000 cash incentive on their 2009 GL450’s. Will this be offered again July 2010?
Thanks
Thanks for all your help G! Thanks to the information you provide I was able to get the wife in a new C300 Sport:
MSRP: $37680
Sale Price: $32175
Trade In: $1600 equity
Monthly: $360 with $0 down
One strange thing I noticed is they reduced the sale price and bumped up the MF at the last minute, but the monthly was what we agreed upon so it didn’t bother me. Any idea why they would do this?
Oops… I forgot to mention that was with 10K miles. I calculate the same deal on 15K to be $393.22/month.
Im looking to get a fully loaded c300 4matic for msrp of 47000. I want 15000miles on a 36 month lease. 1700 due at signing for first month, bank and fees. Zero money down. The dealer is offering $550 a month with tax. The invoice would be 44000 i believe. is this deal any good? And i know last year you were pushing the c350 more but i need a c300 cause of the area i live in with alot of snow
Yes. The dealer is offering you the car at below invoice price, which is a good deal. Last year’s 350 deal was pretty amazing and I doubt we’ll see anything close to that this year. I wouldn’t feel too bad going with this deal.
As for your calculations, it’s off because the assumption is that the dealer is offering you the car at invoice, which he/she isn’t. I think the discount is more than that.
and i just attempted to do the calculations my self from your other page and getting 634.37. So I think im doing something wrong
44000-24200 *36 = 550
44000+24200*.00069=
47.05 +550
597.058 * 1.0625(tax)
634.37
Is the rate of .00007 correct for the SLK300?
BT. the residual doesn’t look wrong to me. MBZ does occasionally introduce super-low MFs. This isn’t out of character, specially when they are trying to liquidate remaining 2010 models.
As for your inception fee question….Inception fee isn’t really one fee. It’s a group of fees you pay before taking delivery of your car. It generally includes your 1st month payment, dealer documentation fee, bank acquisition fee, dmv fees, state fees/taxes. MB doesn’t discount on any of them because the only thing they can control is the bank acquisition fee (which they don’t ever waive). Dealer doc fee generally is charged, but some folks have been able to get it waive. The rest of the fees can’t be waive because they are state imposed. Now, the disposition fee (which is your turn-in fee) generally gets waived when you lease another MB.
I have a C300 that terms in 3 months. Do they usually charge an inception fee if I want to lease another MB, and if so, what fees would normally be charged by MB?
Thanks G. I guess I worded my second question wrong. I meant the bank acquisition fee instead of “inception” fee, which you answered.
no problem. make sure you double check the bank acquisition fee against the one listed on MBFS. Dealers do have a tendency to “bump” it up a few hundred dollars. My local dealer does that.
I’ll do that. Has anyone seen the August numbers for 2010 models? I’m particularly interested in the E350 coupe.
