2012 Mercedes Benz Lease Rates – May 2012

MB has lowered the residual values and money factors of most of their cars. There is also a decent-looking lease on the GL450 at 24-month (the residual is very high at 68%, but the MF is higher than I’d like at .00140). It looks promising so I would recommend crunching some numbers to see how the SUV stacks up with leases of comparable models.

Below, you will see a sample calculation of the C250. The lease has gotten a bit worse using TrueCar data. A shame if you ask me. Expect the C-Coupe to carry a premium for the first year.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 BMW Lease Rates – May 2012

BMW dropped the residual for some of their cars again this month. There has been adjustments to the MF though, so they should look fairly similar to last month in terms of payments.

Here’s the bad news though. If you are shopping for a 2012 3-series, you will not get much of a discount right now. On average, TrueCar indicates a measly $469 bucks off MSRP (the average discount last month was a bit more generous) in my neck of the woods. Pretty lame. I have bigger hopes for the Summer and Fall personally. If you aren’t a hurry, hold off for now.

2012 Honda Lease Rates – May 2012

I am not seeing any changes yet on Honda lease rates, so as of now, I am going to stick with last month’s numbers. I will revisit the numbers mid-month to see if anything changes.

TrueCar changed their website, yet again. I am not seeing their “lowest price” anymore so I will base my calculations based MSRP minus the “average savings”. With that in mind, I still think the Accord SE is an excellent lease. The Altima is also very good so make sure you cross-shop before making your final decision.

2012 Acura Lease Rates – April 2012

No change for April. 2012 RDX is on it’s way out. It will be replaced by a 6-cylinder version that’s more fuel efficient. Overall, I think Acura is struggling with sales, so it’s a good opportunity for you to get a good deal one. TL dealer cash is still the same as last month. RDX gets $1000. TSX has about $500 and ZDX has around $2000.

The RDX looks promising as it hovers just below the 90 RWG rating I normally recommend for leases. It wouldn’t really take much effort on your part to get this lease into the 90+ territory (an additional $100 off the sale price easily gets you into the 90+ RWG territory).

In addition to the RDX, I crunched numbers for the ZDX out of curiosity…this truck is getting $2000 in dealer cash right now. TrueCar is indicating about 10.5% off MSRP in SoCal region. The dealer cost is somewhere around 14.7% (includes the $2000 dealer cash plus holdback). If I were in the market for this truck, I’d shoot for somewhere in between 10.5% and 14.7%. The ZDX has a lot of potential this month.

2012-13 Lexus Lease Rates – April 2012

Lexus adjusted their lease rates this month. Residual drops and MF adjustments. CT200h got a significant bump in MF, which really kills the car as a lease. 2013 GS350 AWD has a really great residual value right now. MF is a tad high, but workable if you can get a nice sale price. Now I’m not saying it’s going to be a great deal, but I do think it has potential. The IS line looks pretty good as well. TrueCar suggests about $600 over invoice, but I think it’s fair to target invoice + incentives. See my sample calculation below to get an idea as to what you should expect on the IS250.

2012 Nissan Lease Rates – April 2012

Altimas are selling extremely well right now. 2013 model is just around the corner and inventory on the 2012s is quite abundant. Two weeks ago, I was shopping for an Altima for my sister. She ended up with a Subaru Legacy Premium, but the quotes I got for the Altima S were VERY competitive. Nissan dealers will not be undersold, therefore, you can cross-shop them to your heart’s content in order to get the lowest price. I personally like the 36-month lease better because it yields a lower monthly payment.

2012 Mercedes-Benz Lease Rates – April 2012

April numbers remain the same as March. There is some customer cash on the C-Class and E-Class listed on Edmunds.com. In addition, it looks like there’s a four-month “pull-ahead” program available on select vehicles. They are calling it the “4 Payment Loyalty Accelerator Program”. If you are looking to get out of your lease early, ask your dealer about this program.

Another interesting topic that was brought to my attention is in regards to the “Super Tier” or A1 tier. Typically, the top tier requires a credit score of about 700+. However, select models that have the “standard” money factor (.00225) have a “Super Tier”. This tier provides a discounted MF (.00195). However, in order to qualify, MBFS will look at your credit as a whole, not just your credit score.

2012-13 Volkswagen Lease Rates – April 2012

2013 CC lease rates is out with $500 lease cash incentive. I personally recommend snagging a remaning 2012 because of the 0% financing for up to 72 months. The lease cash on the 2012 is much larger too ($1750) and the lease rate on it is still pretty good: 49% @ 0.00009 MF (Thanks for the info Mac).

Leasing is all about timing folks. You also have to do your homework and be flexible with what you want to drive. Leasing vs buying also plays a huge part in what makes sense. 0% financing for retail purchases is a no-brainer for most people, however, that also depends on the car you plan to get. If you plan to get married and start a family, buying a 2+2 coupe probably doesn’t make much sense, but leasing one does.
