08/09 Lexus IS Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: The IS is a very borderline “DO NOT LEASE” candidate right now. The residual values have tanked in the past 6 months, even on the 2009 models. It looks like LFS has tried to keep their residual values more realistic. This doesn’t bode well for us because cheap leases rely heavily on “inflated” residual values (more so than low money factors) to keep the payments low. I’m hoping Lexus keeps these residuals until February and drop the money factor significantly. That should save you a few grand in the long run. That 328i is looking mighty good right about now.

09 Honda Accord Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: Doesn’t seem Honda is providing much support on the Accord this month. The positive news is that despite the high money factor, the residual value of the Accord is still high enough to make this lease relatively reasonable. There is also $1000 dealer cash available, so remember that during your negotiations. Lastly, Edmund’s TMV suggests a sale price of $364 below invoice on the EX V6, so keep that in mind as well. Remember, stick to the 36 month lease because Honda only offers bumper-to-bumper warranty for up to 3 years. I love Honda’s leasing program because it always includes GAP coverage, $1500 damage waiver and no disposition fees. Same goes with Acura leases.

January 2009 DO NOT LEASE List

UPDATED January 23rd, 2009 – Here’s January 2009’s DO NOT LEASE list. My initial observation for this January 09 is that most cars are leasing WORSE than last year. This is clearly directly affected by the credit crunch and the poor economic conditions the world is facing. It is likely that automakers may be cutting back on their lease promotions, so don’t be too surprised to see this list grow as the months progress. What qualifies a car on this list? Simple, the residual value needs to be dip well below 50% over 36 months, the money factor needs to be higher than .00200 or 4.8% APR and cash rebates are either nonexistant or only available to a select few. Check this list often because I will be adding more models as I encounter more and more crappy lease rates.

09 Audi Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: Thank you all for your patience! Here are Audi’s January leases. If you can’t find the model you are looking for it’s probably because I’m planning to post them on the “DO NOT LEASE” list for January 2009. Again, some more bad news, residuals took a nose dive in January. Audi FS did try to compesate by cutting money factors, but I know for a fact that a .0006 point drop on the money factor cannot possible offset a 4% drop in residual value. Expect a pricier lease this month. No word on any cash rebates, but it might be possible to get a bit more of a discount on the sale price. If you are a current Audi FS customer, you are eligible for a $1500 rebate so be sure to take advantage of that if you are currently leasing an Audi through Audi FS.

My Take: ALRIGHT FOLKS! I’m officially back! Thank you for your patience while I was on vacation. I had a fantastic time off! I’m jetlagged like no other so I thought I’d take the time to post the first least rates of the year 2009! I got a bunch of “catching up” to do so I’m sorry if I didn’t get to your emails in time. In any case, You all ready for the bad news? Leasing got more expensive for BMWs this month. BMW’s 2009 January rates look worst than December because of the drop in residual value. The money factors are practically unchanged, so you know the news this month is far from good. If you gotta lease a car this month, well do your homework and shop around. I didn’t include the “worse” BMW lease on this list (yes, there are worse ones), I’m reserving those for January’s DO NOT LEASE list.

09 Ford Flex Lease Rate for December 2008

My Take: The Holiday Season is upon us! I hope most of you got your shopping out of the way by now. If not, good luck! As you already know, I will be out of the country visiting family for two weeks, returning January 10th. Until then, I leave you with the lease rates for the Ford Flex, which will be my last post of the year. I know, this isn’t exactly the best lease rate to leave you with, but this is all I could dig up before leaving. The good news is that there is $1000 rebate on this car, so going below invoice is certainly possible (it should shave about $30 off your monthly payment). I do have to hand it to Ford though, they have done a decent job positioning themselves to weather the economic storm. I can’t say the same for GM or Chrysler. GM should have sold off some of their divisions but you already know what they say about old dogs…Anyway, this is an old rant for the new year, so enjoy the Holiday Season!!! Feel free to post on the forums if you have questions, I know B sometimes pops in to share his knowledge and knows a lot about leasing cars. My Take: The money factor is a bit high on the CR-V, but that isn’t unexpected. The good news is that the residual value is very high and you probably don’t have to pay full MSRP for this car. Special financing is also available so be sure to take a look at that. I believe it’s 3.9% for up to 60 months. There’s a college graduate program as well, but it isn’t really worth mentioning since the APR is a bit high.

My Take: The FX35’s 24-month lease should be avoided at all costs. The 36-month is adequate for most lesses, while the 48-month lease nets the lowest monthly payment (around $50 less per month than the 36-month). It may seem like a better deal, but I can almost guarantee you that you will need to spend some money on tire replacements at the end of a 48-month lease, so that’s something to think about. The EX35 still seems to have decent residuals despite being an 08 model. The money factor is practically non-existant so that makes for a decent lease. This isn’t the best deal of the year however, July/August’s deals on the EX were probably the best ones of the year. There is $500 cash and another $5000 dealer cash that’s available, which should help drive down the price of the car significantly. I don’t think you’ll get the whole $5000 dealer cash (they won’t even combine it with the 0% APR and 0.9% financing), but the $500 shouldn’t be too hard.
