09 BMW 1-Series Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: For those who were patient last month and decided to wait til February to lease a 1-series, you’ve been “somewhat” rewarded this month. The money factor has dropped slightly while the residual values have stayed intacted. We are a looking at around $40 savings per month compared to January rates. Not bad huh? I personally would have liked to see the 1-series drop below .00200 on the money factor. I think that would really help move the cars in February, but we may have to wait until March to see if that materializes.

09 Hyundai Genesis Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: The Genesis Sedan V6 is probably the better lease compared to the V8 model. There is supposed to be a $1000 cash incentive floating around so please take that into account during your negotiations. There is also a $500 rebate for those who are in the military. The lease, at invoice, is still a bit more expensive than I prefer (due to the 27-month term, you have less months to spread the depreciation across). However, I feel that there’s a decent amount of room for negotiation here, so dipping below invoice is certainly possible. You probably want to stay away from the V8 model since the residual drops another 3% and the car is pricier. If you choose to lower your mileage to 12k per year to save some money, keep in mind that it only increases the residual by 1%.

09 Acura TL Lease Rates for February 2009

My Take: As unexciting as this may sound to you, Acura has not change their lease rates for February 2009. It doesn’t mean this car is a bad lease of course, but it certainly isn’t a DEAL either. I would be great if AHFC would cut the money factor in half. That should help move these cars. By the way, these rates will run through March. I get this feeling March is going to be a nice month for this car, just like it was last year for the 08 TL.

09 Lexus ES350 Lease Rates for January 2009

MY TAKE: It was a tough call to put this on a DO NOT LEASE post, but the fact is, the residual is just too low. The Infiniti M35 suffers from the same problem. Even if you lower the money factor, it still doesn’t seem to keep the car cheap enough for leasing. You could drop your mileage allowance down to 10k per year to help boost the residual, but still, I just don’t think it helps unless there’s a sizeable chunk of rebates to help offset the depreciation. Feel free to take a pass on this car.

09 Nissan Altima Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: There is a $1500 cash rebate for the Altima right now, which should really help you lower your lease payments. The residual values are still fairly high and the money factor seems to have been lowered somewhat. This is not a bad month to lease the Altima 2.5 S. My calculations do not factor in the cash rebate, so you should expect even lower monthly payments for a base model Altima S. Alternatively, you can add about $1500 worth in upgrades and you should come pretty close to my estimates. Remember to stay away from the 24-month and and 48-month leases. I probably don’t need to tell you why. Also, there shouldn’t be any reason why you should be paying MSRP right now, unless of course, you like your dealer and want to see them make a some money, I am sure they will be quite grateful.

09 Toyota Prius Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: The Prius has a $500 rebate available to customers, which makes this car slightly cheaper to lease than in the past. You probably won’t get this car at invoice + the $500 rebate, but you will certainly get it at $500 under MSRP. The residual value is fairly strong which will help keep the your payments lower than most cars despite the fact that the money factor is high. Just watch out for the options, this ride gets expensive quick.

On another note, I’ve updated the January 2009 DO NOT LEASE list with more cars. I figure I’d get those out there soon since we’re near the end of the month.

09 Subaru Legacy Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: I haven’t posted a Subaru lease rate in a while so it is refreshing to see that Subaru’s actually lease alright this month. As you can see, the sweet spot for this vehicle is at 36-months, so make sure you don’t go beyond that (warranty won’t cover you past the 3rd year anyway so that’s certainly something to keep in mind). There’s about $1000 worth of dealer cash available so make sure to put your negotiating skills into action. The Legacy is going for $400 under invoice according to TMV, so I wouldn’t pay any more than that. There is also special financing available, but it breaks down to around the same as a lease (in terms of interest rate), so no point buying.

09 Infiniti FX35 Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: The FX looks like a decent lease this month as well. TM suggest near invoice price, which is good news. Factoring the $2000 lease cash available and you are probably looking at around $2000 below invoice on a FX35 lease right now. You do want to avoid the 24-month lease however. That one is clearly not a good deal since the MF is inflated adn the residual is low.
