09 BMW 1-Series Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_bmwMy Take: To answer Caren’s question from the 3-series post, the answer would be a resounding “YES, buying IS better than leasing the 1-series this month”. Here’s why…The money factor for the 128i Convertible is a whopping .00225 to .00260, depending on which term you choose. That basically breaks down to 5.4% and 6.24% APR, respectively. Right now, there’s 2.9% financing available for up to 60 month (OAC) through BMWFS, so that would be what I would recommend. There is also $750 Loyalty Cash available so make sure to factor that in if you qualify for it. Since Caren is looking for a convertible, I’ll pop some numbers and calculate the monthly payment ranges for a base 128i Convertible. Remember, for every $1000 extra in options you add, that’s another 25-30 bucks more a month.

10 Mercedes Benz GLK Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_benzMy Take: I’ve been kind of curious as to what the payment ranges would be for the 2010 GLK-Class. Seems like a lot of the european luxury brands are jumping on the compact crossover bandwagon, so I thought that it would be nice to know what kind of numbers we’d be looking at here. As you can see just by looking at the rates, the money factor is not very friendly this month. In contrast, the purchase financing rates are superb! 0.9% financing for up to 66 months! I would probably recommend a BUY instead of a lease on the GLK for this month. If the lease rates drop below the 0.9%, then I will probably change my mind. I don’t see any cash rebates yet, but I certainly would not pay MSRP on anything out there because that’s just not the kind of market we are in right now.

09 Mercedes Benz E-Class Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_benzMy Take: It has become pretty clear that MB does not want their cars back within 24 months anymore, so their best leases are going for either 36 months or 48. For the E-Class this month, you’ll notice that the 24-month leases have gotten hit with a 2% residual value drop while the 36 and the 48 month rates have stayed pretty much the same as last month. You will also notice a slight increase in the money factor (.00014) for the 4matic sedans. My recommendation would be to do a “Lease-to-Buy” on the E350 Lux or Sport, no money down, just inception fees. Another thing is to keep in mind is that they have redesigned the E-Class for the 2010 model year, I don’t have to tell you what that means.

09 BMW 3-Series Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_bmwMy Take: For the most part, the 3-series base rate went up on the sedans and M3s while the residuals stayed unchanged for most of them. If I were in the market for a 3-series right now, I would just consider the coupes. However, if I really need a sedan, I would probably have to live with either the $1000 Loyalty Bonus Cash or the Conquest Cash (not sure what that is though). Another alternative is to go with the 0.9% financing for 60 months. Seriously, 0.9% APR beats any lease deal going on right now so you might always explore the “joys” of ownership. LOL. I don’t really feel like estimating payments on the 328i or the 335i this month, so just go to The List for April 2009 and tell yourself that the payment range is going to be a bit more than that.

09 Mercedes Benz CL, CLK, CLS Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_benzMy Take: Not much of a drastic change for the CL this month. Some residuals went up by 1% and some dropped 1%. A bit weird seeing residuals go up and down like that, but as long as it saves money, I’m all for it. CLKs this month are practically unchanged from April 2009, with the exception of the convertibles. Not sure if the lease deal Dr J got last month is still going on, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to move those still on the lot. Check last month’s comments from Dr J as a guide to your own deal on a CLK550 or even a CLK350. CLS rates went up a bit so I wouldn’t feel too bad if you decided to give it pass this month.

09 Mercedes Benz C-Class Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_benzMy Take: Ready for some good news? The C-Class lease rates stayed relatively the same as last month, with only one exception. The 24-month lease residuals dropped by 1% on the C300 trims and 2% on the C350 and C63. Since the 48-month lease is the sweet spot for the C-Class, it shouldn’t affect most people looking to lease the C-Class. I am still liking the C350 this month since it may still be possible to get it for under $500 per month after tax with just inceptions (or by dropping some MSDs to lower the money factor further). Click Here to read up on last month’s comments on the C-Class to see what I am talking about. Another thing to consider is to BUY the C350. Blasphemy, I know, but still! There is $2000 dealer cash available that CAN be combined with 0.90% APR that’s available for up to 66 months. I’ve been hammering about the C350 for about three months now, not sure how much longer these numbers are gonna stick around. Let this be a warning.

09 VW GTI Lease Rates – April 2009

logo_vwMy Take: GTi rates looks pretty decent. The residual is fairly low, but so is the money factor. As a matter of fact, it is actually lower than their lowest APR for purchase financing. So leasing, is probably the cheaper option. I’ve always had a soft sport for the GTi, but the honeycomb grill needs to go. They should go with the chrome-nose that the Jettas and R32s have to keep things in the VW family more uniform. Anyway, not a bad lease-to-buy candidate, if that’s what you want. The lowest financing APR available is 3.9% for up to 36 months. There are two cash rebates for customers this month, a loyalty one worth $500 and a $1000 for any customer financing with VW. The Loyalty rebate expires tomorrow and the $1000 customer cash expires on 5/4/2009.

logo_nissanMy Take: Yup, you guessed it! I’m just trying to amuse myself by doing some payment estimates on the Nissan GT-R. Don’t expect this car to go for invoice price since it’s a limited production vehicle. Another thing to note is that the 2010 GTR gets a $4000 bump in base price, so don’t expect things to get cheaper any time soon. Surprisingly enough, the residual is fairly strong. Unsurprisingly enough, the money factors stink. Gotta make money somehow, right?
