2012 Mercedez-Benz Lease Rates – January 2012

Through the month of January, MBFS is offering $2000 in loyalty cash to existing lessees on the C-Class. You can even use that on the new coupe! Making this a pretty sweet lease. I still think MBs lease at a slightly lower monthly payment at 48 months, but 36-months is ideal if you want to keep wear and tear to a minimum. If you are currently leasing a MB and your lease is coming to an end, this might not be a bad month to get into a new one. The dealer isn’t going to discount a lot (I’m seeing a measly 3% off MSRP), but with the bonus cash, I think the deal looks pretty darn good.

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Honda Lease Rates – January 2012

Honda numbers got a little worse this month. Residuals did drop on most models, but MF were also lowered to compensate. Some models did get a MF bump though (Pilot and CrossTour, to name a couple), but they are still fairly decent leases for vehicles in their respective class. I expect lease rates to remain the same through the end of February, so if you don’t like what you are seeing, hold out to see what March numbers will look like.

Last month’s Pilot EX-L 4WD lease came in at a 92.4 RWG rating. This month it comes in at 88.1, which is not as good due to MF bump and slightly higher average sale price.

2012 Nissan Lease Rates – January 2012

There is an excellent 24-month lease on the Altima S right now. The MF is a measly 0.00003 and the residual is a whopping 61%! That makes for a pretty slick lease right now. The others aren’t half bad either so don’t forget to check out the incentives (link above) on Edmunds.

One thing to note is that Nissan is notorious for giving customers a lot of cash but that cash typically cannot be combined with their financing (which is fantastic) or leasing (which is also quite good too). So be sure to figure out what best suits your situation (leasing or buying).

2012 Audi Lease Rates – January 2012

As usual, Audi dropped the residual and money factor for this month. I haven’t seen an Audi lease I liked, but the A3 always look promising, but usually ends up disappointing. There are two major issues with Audi leases. 1) The combination of sale price, residual and money factor rarely aligns properly in order to provide you with an outstanding lease. 2) Audi does not like it when you trade in your car to non-Audi dealers before lease expires, so the payoff is inflated in order to discourage that practice.

Anyway, moving on to my sample calculation below, the A3 last month yielded a 83.1 RWG rating. This month, the rating drops to 80.7, making it very unattractive. I’m not seeing any incentives on Edmunds right now, but doesn’t mean there aren’t any. I recommend checking the Edmunds Incentives page often because sometimes it just hasn’t been updated yet.

Please note that I am not saying that you shouldn’t lease an Audi. My job here it to let you know that if you are looking for a deal, Audis probably aren’t what you should be driving. However, if you love Audis and will settle for nothing less, make sure you nail a competitive sale price, pick a model that has low money factor and high residual, and opt for MSDs if your state allows them.

2012 Infiniti Lease Rates – January 2012

Pretty standard changes for Infinitis changes this month. An 1% drop in residual value and a slight reduction in MF to compensate for that loss. The Holiday cash incentive is over, so only the Loyalty money is on the table. There are also two other $1000 dealer cash incentives, but they either can’t be use for leasing or cannot be combined with special lease rates so it’s inconsequential. For more information on these rebates, head on over to Edmunds or speak with your dealer.

A word of warning relating to the sale price on my calculation below. Last month, there have been cases were the dealer was only willing to honor the TrueCar “best price” WITHOUT rebates. TrueCar’s “best price” quote DOES NOT include incentives, so it’s disappointing to see that some dealers will not honor the low sale price plus loyalty cash. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try for “best price” + incentive, but do not be surprised if the dealer refuses to budge. Regardless of your outcome, even if you manage to get the “best price” (without incentives) you are still getting a killer deal on your lease.

2011-12 BMW Lease Rates – January 2012

Happy New Year Everyone! I’ve been on vacation until last Tuesday and returned to work with a mountain load of stuff to do. So if you left me some time sensitive comments, I’m really sorry I didn’t get a chance to answer them. Things should be back to normal now that the Holidays are over. Thanks for your understanding.

The have been some lease rates changes throughout the BMW lineup, specially on remaining 2011 3-series. Residual have taken a huge plunge and the money factors have gone up a bit. This expected since they are no longer “new”. Roll over to last month’s numbers and you will see what I mean. 2012 numbers still look alright since the residuals remain strong, the MF needs some work. I recommend “multiple security deposits” for those of you who are allowed to do so (instead of straight cap cost reduction). This should “buy” down the interest rate and save you some bucks. As for the sale price, don’t expect a lot of breaks because the 3-series is newly redesigned. Like all things new; you gotta pay, to play.

There aren’t any market statistics on the 2012 3-series yet, so my sample calculation this month will be based on the 2011 328ix which has a pretty decent 33-month lease going on right now.

Remember to check out Edmunds.com’s Incentives page to see if any rebates may be available.

2012 Hyundai Lease Rates – December 2011

Unfortunately, I didn’t find a lot of Hyundai lease rates this month. I really need to get a more reliable source for this because scouring through online forums of this stuff just isn’t cutting it. R-Spec Genesis rates suck, but I’m not surprised since it’s a limited production vehicle. The Veloster looks decent but discount are a measly 2% off MSRP in my area. Not good enough in my opinion. The Sonata numbers look about the same as last month, slight drop in residual, but other than that, MF remains the same. Overall, if you are looking to get a Sonata, look to lease because long-term financing a purchase isn’t all that great (3.9% for 60 months & 4.9% for 72 months).

Here is a sample calculation based on TrueCar’s Southern California sale price and do not include local taxes. Please note that your dealer calculations may vary due to local fees/taxes.

2012 Hyundai Sonata SE

2012 Volvo Lease Rates – December 2011

There has been a drop in residual values ranging from 1% to 2% for most models in the line up. Luckily, Volvo has adjusted the Money Factor to keep the lease from tanking. I actually prefer having a lower residual and lower money factor because it gives you the option of buying-out your lease at a more reasonable price should you love your car. If you are curious about the Lease-To-Buy scenario I just described, check out this LINK.

Moving onto a sample Volvo lease, the S60 is still an attractive lease, specially for returning customers. Below you will see a more “REAL WORLD” estimate based on a well-equipped S60 T5 with Sunroof. The lease is still good, but not as enticing as last month. TrueCar indicates about 8% off MSRP in the SoCal region excluding the $1000 loyalty cash is still available, which bumps the discount to about 10%. Without the loyalty cash, the lease drops to a 88.8 RWG rating which is still within an acceptable range, but not as ideal. Given a choice, I would recommend BUYING the car because you can get a lower interest rate of 0.9% for 48 months OR 1.9% for 72 months, both which are much lower than the 2.38% the MF converts to.

Lease rates was made available by the good folks at North Point Volvo. If you are in or near the Alpharetta, GA area and looking for a Volvo, please give them a call.
