As noted in my Trading-In Your Lease post, Audi discourages lesses from selling their leases to other dealers by quoting a higher payoff when you try to trade-in your lease to non-Audi dealers. So if you don’t plan to keep your Audi lease until the end of your lease, I would recommend skipping them.
With that said, no astronomical changes in this month’s rates. The usual drop in residual and a slight bump in the money factor on most cars. There is still a lot of loyalty cash in play (plus LeaseCompare has some fleet incentives too) and you should expect “lower-than-last-month” sale prices for all 2011 models to help offset the lower residual/higher mf combo.

Could you comment a bit more about how Audi discourages lessees from trading to other dealers? I’m considering a new Volvo S60 T5 pretty strongly as my next lease (ordering in November, most likely) and was also thinking about trading my Audi A3 near the end of its lease period (February 2012). I’m significantly under my miles (anticipating being at 23K out of a possible 45K) and think I can get much more than the $16K value in my original deal. Looking at 3 year old A3s with similar mileage, it seems that the value is much closer to $21K. Would it be right to assume that I could trade to a dealer, pay off an end of lease buy out and have several thousand left to pocket or is Audi going to make that impossible?

Per the discussion in my Trade-In Your Lease post, it seems many Audi lessees are having some difficulty trading in their Audi leases to cash in on some equity. My understanding of the situation (based on a discussion I had with a Carmax rep) is that some brands want an opportunity to buy back their cars, which is why the payoff offered to you is much lower than the one offered to a non-Audi dealer. I suspect this is a way to control their CPO supply as well, which is a profitable business for luxury brands.
I would have to say that in your case, take the car in for appraisal and have them contact AFS to see if the payoff is the or close to your offer price. Keep in mind that you don’t want to time it too close to the end of your lease because AFS may refuse the buyout and simply wait for you to turn the car in. I would say take the car in for an appraisal in October to see if how much its worth and what the payoff looks like and make your decision about the Volvo based on the response you get.

The lease rates for the 2011 A3 seem unreal at .00011. Am I mistaken or is that effectively < 1%?
I made the unfortunate mistake of buying (well, financing) my leased '05 A6 when the 4 year lease ended. The savings I expected have long ago evaporated since I've been visiting the dealer's repair shop monthly for $1K to $2.5K repairs. I still owe $15K on the car.
Any thoughts on how I should handle this? I've always leased for 4 years and just returned the car previously. I'm thinking I would much rather sell the car to the dealer and eat the negative blue book value than have an overeager person test drive the car and run up another $2K repair.
I love Audi's and this is my third one, but some cars were meant to be leased, not owned. My punishment, it seems, is going to be leasing an A3 instead of the 2012 A8 I've been dreaming about and working toward for the past 15 years.

I would recommend putting it up for sale privately to see if you can fetch anything close to the 15k you owe on the car. I find it so unreal that the A6 needs this much work. Definitely not something worth buying. Then again, I feel this way about all German cars. I think they can be leased, but I am not sure I would want to own one.
In any case, the A3’s numbers are correct, the MF is THAT LOW! I believe the A3 is getting a refresh for the 2012 model year, which is why the 2011 are pretty good deal (by Audi standards anyway) right now. I do like Audis too, specially the S5, but at the price point, there are other cars I’d rather have on my driveway.
Have you thought about going with a Mercedes? I’d rather have a c300 for 4 years over the A3 quite honestly.

The A3 was supposed to get a refresh for 2012 but I believe that Audi has pushed the model launch for the US back to 2013. Typical, really.
I really have loved my A3 but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the current iteration as a step away from the A6, especially if you’ve gotten used to the bells and whistles like MMI. The A3’s nav system is the only way to get MMI and its pricy and clunky compared to the A6’s, owing to the fact that it’s 2004 tech, more or less. I’d see if you can get yourself into an A4 instead which will be much more akin to what you’ve grown accustomed to.
I can also say that my fiancée’s mother’s 2005 A6 is great mechanically but goes to the shop about one every three months for recalls, electrical or other repairs and they are costly. It’s been that way for the last year or so.

I’m looking at the A3, at that awesome money factor and residual, as a way to minimize expenses. My 2005 A6 has racked up over $14K in repairs during the past 12 months. About the only thing that has saved me is the GEICO MBI, though the $250 deductible still adds up to about $4000. The problem is that the car is very close to 100K and 7 years, after which the MBI is no longer available.
The A3 is, compared to a fully loaded A6, slumming it, but it gets me back to having fixed transportation expenses. I wish the same money factor applied to the A3 TDI…almost 40mpg and a higher trim level would be incredible, especially since it would be mostly a daily commuter.

Oh, and a comment for ANYONE who is thinking about buying an Audi instead of leasing, or buying a car at the end of the lease, DON’T DO IT!
The primary reason why I started leasing was to minimize unexpected expenses. For all of my other cars, the lease was timed to expire before the manufacturer’s warranty. With this car, I *thought* it would continue running without issues. Just replacing the heater core was a $5K expense (Thanks GEICO!)
As long as I’m able, I will NEVER buy a car again.
