My Take: I know you are going to ask me about the 2010 numbers and the only answer I have for you right now is that I don’t have them. Please refer to the June numbers if you are curious. The 2011 numbers are BAD, so leasing a 2010 is probably in your best interest right now since dealers will be more inclined to discount them over the 2011s. I would at least wait until Fall before you begin to see improvements on 2011s numbers.

I need some help here. I just leased a 2010 E350 in FL and feel like I was taken advantage of.
MSRP: 53,347
Negotiated Price: 48,247
Fees: 1,916
(dreaded dealer prep @ 599 and MB financial lease acq fee @ 795, tag, title and 1st time registration in FL, etc. @ 522)
Gross CC: 50,263
Net CC after MB Loyalty and cash down: 2K/2K: 46,263
Residual is 29,918 on 39 Month term (roughly 56% RV on 12k annual mileage)
Here is the RUB: I was told I was getting a .0022 MF, but with all these #, my monthly car payment is $682 for 39 months
I’m not a finance guy so I may be off a little when using your formula, but I was expecting around $630 a month and not what I signed to.
What are your thoughts?
@notsure. I’m getting $587 + tax. With 1st month payment due at signing. Yeah the final numbers look very high, by almost $100 per month. I would advice your to look over your contract to make sure there aren’t any extras and if the mf is correct. If you need help, you can always email a photocopy of your contract (block out your personal info) and I will examine it. My email address it can be found on the right-side menu section under “contact”.
I was told by a dealer that MB is offereing $1500 in retail cash towards the purchase or lease of a new 2010 E Coupe. I assume this is a rebate and different than loyalty cash? Can incentives like these be combined when a pull-ahead for the last 3 payments is done?
Do you have to turn the car in at the time of the pull-ahead or can you keep it until the lease term ends?
BT, loyalty and retail cash are not the same thing since all buyers and lesses will probably qualify for the retail cash, but not all will get the loyalty. You should be able to combine the two. You should also be able to take advantage of the “pull-ahead” program as well. You cannot keep your existing lease, though. In the “pull-ahead” program, the bank simply waives up to three month’s of your payments (they don’t actually pay it for you so that you can keep driving the car) so you can get into a new car. This program should also waive your disposition fee.
They “got me” on the mf. All the numbers lines up except the “finance charge” of the lease. That number did not align with the mf they quoted me. The problem with MB Financial paperwork is that it does not list the mf/rate, but lists the total cost instead. Without a calculator with me, I was at a loss although I knew something was wrong. At the end of the day, I returned the car the next day, reported the dealer to Mercedes of North America and walked away. They outright lied to me several times on the mf and that is not negotiation. Thanks for the help
great job notsure. Glad you were able to return the car. Thanks for sharing your experiences too. I think the toughest part of leasing is finding honest dealer that will not jerk you around and take advantage of you. Leasing in itself is a complex transaction which has can hide many fees if folks aren’t careful. That is why it’s good to keep everything as transparent as possible. It isn’t illegal to do this, but it certainly is dishonest.
notsure, I am really losing faith with MB dealers. I walked into a MB dealer yesterday and was really aggravated with the games they play. To make a long story short, they gave me a quote for a 2011 C300 at the MSRP plus 1 point over the buy rate. Here the part that really made me angry. I am under a C300 lease currently and the salesman grabbed the VIN off of mine to supposedly verify something for pull-ahead eligibility. I only have 3 months left on the lease. The quote they gave me was conveniently $5 cheaper than my current payment. Of course, I am on a 27 month lease and this would have been a 36 month which makes it even worse. I clearly told them upfront that I wanted everything itemized out but all they gave me was a payment, tax, and “start” amount to pay down. I walked out. I was originally looking at a 2010 because of the cash-to-dealer incentives and they came back with a 2011 that they “located” for me. They want to pretend that they are performing a service for me that only that dealership can so that you won’t go elsewhere. I have visited several MB dealers and I am starting to believe this is just how they operate.
I understand that the dealer has to make money and I am willing to negotiate the deal in several areas. The problem, as you stated, is that this is not negotiating. It’s blatant disrespect towards their customers and a bad business practice. I am probably going to get a BMW because I have talked to a couple of BMW dealers in my area and they give me the numbers much straighter. Maybe BMW dealers just do leases much more often than Mercedes dealers.
Thanks for the comment, G. I usually lease every 2-3 years and with two cars in the household, I am leasing a new car about every 18 months. I had been leasing BMW save for the last two cars that were both Mercedes. The reason I went with a Mercedes again is because BMW cannot compete with the price when you compare a BMW 535i to a MB E350. I will admit I like the BMW drive a lot better, but I cannot always justify the extra expense for my driving fetish. Great site, G! Keep up the good work so schmucks like me do not loose their shirt in our deals.
BT, go see BMW. I wound up getting a 2011 BMW 535i and love it.
notsure, i’m doing about the same thing right now. We have two leases and we lease around every 18 months as well. Granted, I don’t have the budget for a BMW or Mercedes nowadays, I do agree that for certain models, BMW just can’t compete with in terms of value. Anyway, I’m just glad you where able to get out of that mess!
