2010 Audi A3, A4, S4, A5, S5 Lease Rates – November 2009

logo_audiMy Take: Money factors dropped from last month, but so did the residual values. That should pretty much keep you around the same ballpark as last month. What I’d really like to see right now is a TDI version of the A4. That’d be cool. It is still a fairly good month for an Audi, so don’t sleep on this.

  1. Thanks for these latest numbers, G. Do you know what effect 18k miles would have — or is that something to try to bargain into the price? (I’m looking at an A4 quattro P+)

    • going beyond the 15k miles per year allowance usually means you have to buy those the miles at a discounted “per mile” rate. So if you want another 3,000 miles every year, you would have to buy it at say, 15 cents per mile. You can’t really “negotiate” the miles because that is direct relationship with the residual, which isn’t negotiable. You can only negotiate the final sale price and some fees. In some cases, the money factor, if it’s been padded by the dealer.

  2. Hi G – What would the residual be for 10k miles as opposed to 15k? Thanks – Great site btw. First time for me.

    • welcome! Ali! for 10k miles, you add 3% to the 15k residual. 2% if you opt for 12k miles per year. Keep me updated with the progress of your lease. Would love to see what kind of deal you end up with. Thanks!

  3. G – Been following your site for months, and the time is finally here. I’m going in Saturday to pick up my 2010 S5 Premium Plus. Negotiated $1500 above invoice at the time of ordering. I’m planning on going with 12k. Will let you how I come out.

    • JLinz, definitely keep me posted on the S5 deal. And if you get a chance to snap a few pics, email them to thewall(at)ridewithg.com. The Wall has been quiet lately and it’s screaming for a fancy ride. 🙂

  4. G – Great site. Just stumbled up on it. You do a fantastic job, and can’t thank you enough for the valuable info here. Based on what you have written here, I just went into an Audi dealership here in L.A., and want your opinion of the deal on the table —

2010 Premium Plus + Dark wood trim + Deep Sea blue
    DVD Navigation ==
    Sticker – $39,200

    My deal —
    $3240 down (incl 1st payment + Reg)
$500 mo for 42 months (All in, incl tx)

I havent pulled the trigger yet. Appears like a good deal, but wanted AudiCare thrown in. Am I asking for too much?

    Thoughts? Anyone?

    Thanks in advance
    Steve

    • steve, what’s the sale price on the car and how much in fees did u end up paying. seems a tad high in my opinion.

  5. I haven’t paid anything in fees, because when I got to the finance dept, they said a couple of things that made me 2nd guess the deal. Also, they never countered anything I said, and agreed to it all until I asked for AudiCare to be thrown in.

I never got the sale price definitively (I know, stupid steve), but he did they the care was 36,5 – 35,6… just over 800 below invoice.

    Sorry for the limited info…

I’m thinking of this counter —

    2000 down… INCLUDING 1st pymt and Reg.
    $500 for 41 additional months

same care as above, plus add AudiCare…

    ????

    • steve. you can calculate the interest by multiplying the money factor by 2400. As far as the deal goes, I will say this. I don’t recommend leasing past 36 months. Since you are in LA, your auto registration will be upwards or about 500+ for this A4, per year. Doing a 42 month lease means you will pay the full 4th year of your dmv registration, drive the car 6 months and pay another full registration for the next car. Unconventional terms, such as 27, 30, 39, 42 month leases benefit only the bank, not you. Another thing is your tires. after 42 months, you WILL need new tires. At $200-300 bucks per tire, that’s another $1000 or so. Plus, unless you lease another Audi, chances are you will not be offered any wear-and-tear waiver.
As far as the deal goes, it’s really hard to know if you are getting the “right deal” because I don’t know the residual value, money factor, sale price of what you are trying to lease. In order for me to know how good the deal is, I would need to crunch the numbers on my end and see if their are any hidden costs.
The less upfront you pay, the better. Remember that in the event of theft or accident, whatever you put down upfront, is gone. GAP kicks in and covers what you owe, but the bank or deal isn’t going to refund you a dime.

  6. oh, finance also mentioned something about interest being 1.68%

Also — was thinking Black Friday may be the day to go in there, and lock it up.

  7. G —

Thanks so much. Great advice! We started at 36 months (my preference also), but my monthly’s were coming out to high, and he suggested 42 months. Considering all you wrote, maybe I ought to try harder for 36 mo… or just stretch it to 48 (although I’d have to get tires etc.)

Update: Just called me and offered me AudiCare and $500 less up front.
And also got this from them —
    Money factor – .00070
    Sale Price – $36,595
    Residual – $18,032

    Helppppp…

    • @steve. Alright, here’s what I got based on your numbers…

      MSRP 39,200
      Sale 36595
      MF .0007
      RV 46%
      Term 42 months
Monthly $480 (plus tax) or $527 per month (@9.75% sales tax)

Audi’s Acquisition fees is around $625. Your DMV reg is probably gonna hover around $450 or so. That puts you are slightly around $1100 with CA tire tax and county fees. Factor in yoru 1st month payment and your inception fees is about $1600.
With the dealer discounting you $500, that means you are paying about $1140 towards cap reduction ($3240-$500-$1600=$1140). By applying that, I get about $499, which is pretty darn close the $500 per month quote you got. My opinion is this. Your sale price is probably around $500 below invoice, but with the AudiCare thrown in ($740), that’s about a $1240 below invoice. I think you can still knock off another $500 personally.

On a personal note, I think its a bit expensive to lease an A4 compared to the competition. It is cheaper than before, but still expensive overall.

  8. G, you say to add 3% to the 15k residual for 10k miles, and add 2% for 12k miles. What should I SUBTRACT for 18k miles from the residual for a 2010 premium plus quattro sedan?

Also, what do you think about this deal:
    msrp 38880
    gross cap 36963 (includes audicare)
    doc fee 210
    acq 625
    mf .00090
residual 48% (is this correct for 18k mi?)
    pa tax 9%

    36 months @ 18k/yr = 558.41/mo (808.67 with tax) (no money down)

    Thanks!!

    • @jack. when it comes to 18k leases, you will need to consult with your dealer regarding the extra 3000 miles per year. Any mileage above 15k per year is calculated based on a pre-negotiated “per mile” rate. For example, if your “per mile” rate is $0.10 per mile and you need 3000 miles per year, your residual value will drop by $300 per year. Consult your dealer for the exact rate.
As far as your deal goes, I think you can do better. You should AT LEAST shoot for invoice price WITH AudiCare ($740) included in the sale price.

  9. G – what a great site! I’m trying to negotiate for the lowest monthly payments on a lease. Audi A4 Quattro Avant, Premium Plus. No extras. The selling price quoted was $38,853 with MSRP of $40,075. 36 mo, 12k miles, $625 Acq fee, cap reduction (cash down) $1340. Together with other inception fees – $2894.75 drive off. Monthy lease – $587.45. Do I still have any room to negotiate? Thanks much.

    • @henry. I think you can negotiate the sale price further. I think there’s about a $2500 spread between MSRP and invoice. I’m not 100% sure how easy it will be to go below invoice on the Avant, since they are limited production vehicles. That wouldn’t discourage me from trying to shoot for $1000 below invoice though. Haaha.

  10. Sorry, I forgot to mention that Audi Financial will waive the security deposit on this offer.

  11. G —

Locked it up last night, and driving a new car this morning. My deal ended up as this —

    MSRP – 39200
    MSRP 39,200
    Sale 36740
    MF .0007
    RV 46%
    Term 42 months
Monthly $460 (plus tax) or $504 per month (@9.75% sales tax)
    Prem Plus/Blue
    Wood
    DVD Nav
    AudiCare
+2000 miles per year (12K total per yr or 42K total)

You thought I could do about $500 better. I needed the extra miles, and got $20 less than what you wrote above.

Hopefully, I grinded him enough, and did you and the site proud!

    Thanks again for the help…

    S

  12. Hey great site! I had never seen anything like it online before.

This is my first lease I need want to know if I am getting a good deal.

All the info I have is…

2010 Audi A5 ipod connector, bluetooth, sunroof
    $38000
1650 due at signing(dealer prep tax fees)
    0 down
    36 month 10k a year
$558 out the door a month

please give me some feedback! how much should I try to bargain I have absolutely no idea what I’m working with

    • @alex bello. Hey there Alex. Thanks for checking in. Glad you like the site! I’m having a little bit of a problem crosschecking your deal since I don’t have the MSRP, sale price and the MF and Residual being used to calculate. I also don’t know if this is a Premium or a Premium Plus with or without Auto Transmission. The residual values change depending on the trim, so its really important to have that information. I will say this though, if the car’s MSRP price was in fact $3800 and the dealer sold it to you at MSRP, your payments would be $533 with inception fees (which is about what you have there) plus your sales tax. If sold at invoice, would be about $460+tax. I think you got somewhere in between invoice and MSRP. Maybe about $500-$1000 over invoice. This would make it a “so-so” deal. Now this is all speculation since I don’t have all the numbers. But this should give you some idea where you stand.
